The ax fight and courtroom drama steal the show in episode 5 finale of Hulu’s ‘Candy’

Religious references can be a bit heavy-handed at times, like the kids acting out a Noah’s ark play while Candy carries out the killing. But others are subtle and less forced, hinting at questions about redemption that will come later. Betty tells Candy to give her daughter a peppermint as a reward for going underwater at her swim lesson. When the girl picks her head up out of the pool, Candy reaches out with the mint in a gesture that looks like communion.

The episode closes with Candy on the witness stand in what would’ve been the old McKinney Courthouse. How she got there remains to be told.Episode 3 - Sex, love and gospel. We look at Betty and those church friendships It’s an awkward relationship coming from two suburbanites who probably picked up extramarital affairs tips from tuning intoOne downside for local viewers: We get a generic motel setting instead of the Continental Inn orMeanwhile, back to Betty, still wearing her sad face. Not long after Candy and Allan’s strategy session, Betty puts Allan over the edge when she announces her second pregnancy.

That deafening sound we heard seven minutes into Episode 4 was viewers frantically smashing the pause buttons of their remotes. That’s when Collin County Deputy Steve Deffibaugh is seen getting a call and lumbering to his closet for his uniform. The scene lights up, and it’s — OMG, a mustached Justin Timberlake.In a series careful with its narrative, it was jarring to see Timberlake’s mug.

Candy feels the heat of the chase and decides to see her attorney, Don Crowder , who almost derails the narrative again with a couple of shirtless scenes. On her last visit of the episode, she confesses and Crowder gleefully realizes he has a self-defense challenge on his hands.

JessicaBiel deserves an award for this performance
