Why Your Teen Must Learn to Advocate for HimselfWhen your child goes off to college, he'll need to take care of himself — and that includes being his own ADHD advocate. Make sure he's ready to stick up for himself with teachers and professors. I feel like this is only functional if there is also an adults-only version of the meeting. There is crap I have to yell at school staff about that I do not need my little kid to hear. We did this (per schools recommendation) and it did not go well. A table of 8 adults asking my 6 year old questions was super intimidating and he basically shut down. Now we have him come in for a few comments and then he goes to class while the rest of us meet. I started going to them when I 13. Always enjoyed going to them!
