Teachers worry about return to classroom amid surges in COVID-19 cases.

As the American Association of Pediatrics is calling for kids to go back to school, here's a look at how schools will work to keep kids safe.August Plock, a high school social studies teacher in Pflugerville, Texas, said he is slated to be back in the classroom on Aug. 13. But as newcases surge in the state, he said he's concerned that teachers are being sacrificed in order to reopen the economy.

"I would hate to think that I’ve been exposed to COVID and maybe not realized yet that I have, and then somehow bring that to her and to her home and expose her, so there are a lot of concerns related to that," said Plock, who also serves as the president of Pflugerville Educators Association of the Texas State Teachers Association. Some teachers around the country say they are nervous about returning because of underlying health conditions or concerns about infecting family members.

"We want to make sure it’s safe for our students, the educators and their families when they return home," President of Fairfax County Federation of Teachers Tina Williams told ABC News. "We feel that should be the driver on the side of how many positions are available and how many distance teachers they need and how many classes they can offer in person. What’s being done is the reverse … they’re asking how many parents intend to send their children to school and then staffing up the buildings according to that," Adams said.

The AAP is recommending I go back to work in a school with over 800 students, but I’m not allowed to bring both of my children to a doctor appointment?

Then they can quit...problem solved

GovAbbott if my hometown school district don’t open with all students in classroom then everyone deserves a huge break in property taxes

Teachers. Students. Parents. All worried. No way to social distance in a school. Sad but school needs to continue online - distance learning.

Sure shut down the country , then after election it's going to be automatically gone

And probably went to a BBQ yesterday with 30 other people there.

Over 1000 points of contact with my 150-180 high school students. Parents get an option to homeschool teachers do not 😷

They should find a new line of work then, perhaps in a bubble

Returning to classrooms seems like an extremely dangerous decision. Especially since covid-19 is airborne.

We've had this discussion already in the UK. Teaching unions were demonised and their concerns ignored while both major parties demanded that schools reopened. Fast forward to now, some schools had to shut down again because of local outbreaks. Don't fall into the same trap.

It isn't safe. To much of a spreader. Super spreader event.

A real concern - between older teachers, younger with children, etc.there must be protocols put into place, wear mask + shields, for students + teachers. Smaller glass sizes, less movement of students. Maybe teachers move or longer class times, days (block scheduling) 4 day week

Really we can go to Home Depot Walmart casinos etc give me a break

Poor teachers they have a tough job with a low pay & without any viruses anyway

Pathetic. What about grocery store workers working every day with no complaints. Kids need to be in school!

Really? I have not heard one teacher say that. And the AAP isnt worried either- in fact the AAP has issued a statement that children not returning to the classroom is more detrimental to their health than COVID.

Walgreens forcing employees tested positive to come back work after 10 days , even if they still showing symptoms !!!!! Shame on Walgreens ... making more employees and their patients sick 😡😡😡😡😱

I'm anxious. I'm sure most teachers are. We miss our kids, and we understand parents needs to return to work, and students socio-emotional needs. However, this disease doesn't discriminate. It can transfer between people. It's a liability. No one's safe.

I don’t eat inside of restaurants. I limit time spent in stores. I don’t attend parties. Even if I went to the mall for a soft pretzel I would be nervy. So a quick shift to 40 hour school day with 80 kids might bring on some anxiety.

So let’s see. Open the schools: 10xs more infectious now than March Classes with no windows. In nj, no mask requirement for students. And last a real specialty NO LIDS ON TOILETS. The difference btw Italy ⚽️ game super spreader event and Protests.

There is not a covid19 virus, and there is a serious disease that has killed hundreds worldwide, a strong toxicity in the stomach that prevents oxygen and blood from circulating in the body, and it is because of the small parts of toxic glass put in food

If children can’t spread this then why would anyone be scared..thanks for more fear!!

All of the planners of a return to school never checked with the teachers or the students’ parents? During disasters the masses are the ones in control of their own destinies. Not one planner will ever take the blame of one single case or death due to their decisions.

iamnicolehamm In the midst of a lot of bad decisions during the COVID pandemic, having kids wear masks to school is a terrible idea

US can afford to equip taxpayer-funded public schools with standardized masks for students & staffs so that PANDEMIC RESPONSE is not a source of differentiation, distraction, oneupmanship. If 'we' CAN'T afford that, slash the SPACE program & TaxTheBillionaires. FirstThingsFirst

Be the heros everyone says you are and teach. If Walmart employees have to be around people for minimum wage you should be too

Demand hazardous duty pay

😴 Open your eyes people...😳 Covid911 - INSURGENCY (only 9 mins)

50%of teachers are over age 50. They are wise to be concerned

Great. Time to home school or promote school choice. Let’s keep our children away from public teachers’ unions that care more about protecting their pensions than educating their students.

We worry as parents. We don’t want Covid coming home with the kids , cause you know it will happen.its just a matter of time.

But why? 🧐

NationalTeacherStrike

They should be relieved that the death rate has decreased steadily for the last 10 weeks.

“Remember when all our kids became socially rtarded because they were no longer able to interact with each other?” Me in 20 years

Schools are highly dense, enclosed environments. Return to classrooms will lead to a huge spike in cases. No return to school until a vaccine is developed and the population is vaccinated.

As they should. It's like opening bars, fantastic way to spread anything.

Kids are gross. I don’t blame them. They’ll spread it once they’re all grouped together.

And they should. Politicians don't care about you. They want the economy to look good for their reelection full stop

I’m glad this is being reported. Children are not the only people in a school building. Children may not be at high risk, but some adults are. Unfortunately, children are sent to school sick all the time. Parents need to work and don’t want to leave their child home alone.

I'm not

About coronavirus teachers can educate and control children it's important cut students movement with guidelines all is a new thing tactics like in the school no gathering brake time less no sports this year morning assemble with social distance plus so much more Godcomment...

The newly installed 5G network will be your challenge. But of course they will blame it on the coronavirus and separate parents from their children. So parents better beware! This wicked society need child sacrifices.

Translation: Communist teachers are terrified of freedom.

In my district we are getting a pay freeze and have to wear masks every day -all day- but have to provide our own.

I firmly believe that the virus happened for a reason. Man won’t make changes. Politicians and big business or religion won’t make changes. The virus is saying make it happen now.

I worry about any kids whose parents allow them to return to a classroom.

So quit

In Europe, where the pandemic struck earlier, and the numbers of patients have gone down, schools have partially been reopening. The conclusion is that for now there is little risk of contamination between children and youngsters under 18. But for the US: first flatten the curve

The kids need to be back in school. This shutdown has impacted them more than Covid

There will not be a return to classrooms.

Stay home, they aren’t teaching these kids anything anyway

There should not be a return to classes.

Teachers worry about what is going to actually happen? New Zealand handled CV19 correctly, and set the example going forward. Rich corporate capitalist white supremacists here are still debating the science, as part of maga...

Yes, they should worry. It is already bad and sad enough the miserabe compensation levels they receive. If children are not taught at home to be more cognizant of good health practices, teachers are at a great risk of COVID19 infections.

Then resign and let the young ones who are having a very difficult time finding a job take over - this isn’t hard

Interesting watching our systems be tested like this.

as well they should, it's going to be a disaster

They should be getting hazard pay

It sure is easy to make the rules when your not going to be in the middle of the fire. If Corona dont get you the stress will. Let's continue learning the hard way instead of using common sense.

Teach outside

Kids are not spreaders of this anymore than a cold or flu

I can’t figure out how schools can reopen. Kids are pure germ spreaders. They will take it home and the virus will explode. I get schools need to open so parents can go back to work but it sounds like a bad idea.

My state, Florida, where the cases are on the rise daily, is sending kids and teachers back to school next week for summer school, masks optional for teachers and students.

I'm a school crossing guard. No kids in class=no crossing guard shift for me. Parents have a choice, they can do it online or have some in the classroom!

Okay kids...open to chapter 5. Constitutional Rights and Societal Obligations

Face shields, could be used.

Welcome to our reality through this whole pandemic in Sweden saveswedencov19 bytStrategiNu

New Mexico reports a 27% uptick in children coronavirus cases.

who In their right mind wants someone this DUMB teaching their kids 😂🤣😂🤡🤡🌎🌎

Someone should tell them that currently there’s a VERY small chance of death or even hospitalization if infected.

My husband is a teacher&the current plan is BS! They will get infected & not know until they are sympotmatic aka Sick. They will be exposed by their students & parents. Buses are refusing temp kids prior to getting on the bus! So that kid is exposed to all other kids & families.

Down here in Florida MOST of the School Bus 🚌 Drivers are over 65. So ahh who’s gonna drive the buses?

They can’t even keep lice out of the schools

Just call class a protest and everything will be fine.

Are you ill? do you know someone ill with COVID 19? Are you working? Can you buy groceries oay rent? Do you believe the media ?

Keep them home fire half of them and start cyber school. They only work 182 days a year anyway

Remember the good old days when it was only diarrhea, flu or barfitis you would worry about?
