The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) sued Betsy DeVos and the Department of Education. Here's what you need you to know:

A major teachers union is suing Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos — again. The American Federation of Teachers sued DeVos and the Department of Education for repealing an Obama-era regulation that they claim leaves student loan borrowers stuck with “tens of thousands of dollars of student loan debt” and “worthless degrees.”alleges that DeVos repealed the “gainful employment” rule that would have protected students from for-profit colleges and universities.

The AFT claims that without the gainful employment rule, students cannot make informed decisions about which college or university to attend. As a result, student could default on their student loans at a higher rate, which could cost taxpayers $5.3 billion.DeVos believed the the gainful employment rule was confusing and unfairly targeted for-profit schools.

"My first priority is to protect students," DeVos said in 2017 about gainful employment, and another rule, borrower defense to repayment."Fraud, especially fraud committed by a school, is simply unacceptable. Unfortunately, last year's rulemaking effort missed an opportunity to get it right. The result is a muddled process that's unfair to students and schools, and puts taxpayers on the hook for significant costs.

House to vote on bipartisan Holocaust education billThe House today is voting on bipartisan legislation to authorize new federal funding to help schools teach students about the Holocaust and anti-Semitism Why solely fund anti-semitism; why not fund a full anti-hate campaign that promotes anti-racism in general? Sure the Jews faced a horrible tragedy in their home land, but Native American genocide & Black slavery happened here & deserve as much of a PR push as the holocaust Never forget will depend on what/if future generations are taught about past atrocities. My great uncle claus survived 4 years at Dachau. The masturbation machines ruined his mind, he coomed himself to death in 1948.

California Considers Permitting Students Excused Mental Health DaysLast summer, Oregon passed a bill that allows students to take excused absences for mental health related issues. Advocates said it would reduce stigma and encourage students to seek necessary treatment. Now, California is considering something similar. Students will always take mental health days, sanctioned or not. They might as well give them all Election Day off...actually, give them off the whole damn week judging from their response last year. Be sure to double up on the coloring books and safety pins. Good
