The Couple’s Pregnancy AnnouncementFrance announced the couple was expecting their first child, viasurrogateon Instagram on Tuesday, April 13, with a picture of himself and an ultrasound image.“So happy to finally share that WE’RE HAVING A BABY!!” he wrote in the caption. “No, I’m not pregnant, despite this VERY realistic pic. With the greatest gift/help of the most wonderful surrogate, Rob and I are lucky enough to be on our way to being parents this Summer. Something we’ve wanted for SOooo many years. Our hearts are so full right now. I cannot wait to hold this baby, and to show him so much love.”

Rob also shared the news to his Instagram page, with an illustration of a baby. “We have a beautiful little angel on the way and I didn’t think it was humanly possible to feel like this,” he wrote in the caption.France opened up about his desire to become a dad during an headtopics.com

interviewwith Terry Gross, of NPR, in 2019.“I’ve wanted children since I was 19, 20…If I’d had a stable relationship at that time, I would have desperately tried to have children,” he said at the time. “I was going to be a stay-at-home dad, which is something I’ve wanted for many, many, many years. And so that was the plan. And I actually—crazily, I still want six. I don’t know if that’s going to happen, but yeah, I still want six children.”

Earlier this year, France also opened up about about the surrogacy process, saying that, while he and his husband knew they wanted to have a surrogate, the process was not a simple one.“Surrogacy was the right choice for us…And we wanted to have a donor who we felt was a perfect match for what we wanted our child to be, and what we want for our future and their future," he told

PEOPLE. "The person that we have carrying our baby is somebody that is wonderful, and we know that she will take care of our baby beautifully…We see it as, kind of, she’s a nanny for our baby before our baby is born, and she’s incredible.”He continued, “As far as the donor was concerned, that was a more complicated process, but we really wanted to make sure that the person that we were working with was kind and was going to have the kind of traits that we were looking for in the world [and] that we look for in each other."

He also told the outlet that while the pandemic allowed he and Rob to focus on their family’s expansion, the guidelines due to COVID-19 made the process more difficult. The couple wasn’t able to see their surrogate as often as they would have liked or attend doctor’s visits. "We’ve been able to zoom in, but that’s the hardest part for sure,” he told PEOPLE, adding that, regardless, he’s grateful for the experience. “There wasn’t a time [before the pandemic] when I could have taken weeks and weeks off to go through this difficult process. Last year, we were in a position to be able to do so and we couldn’t be more grateful for it.” headtopics.com
