Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has resigned as head of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party following local election losses. Voters overwhelmingly chose the opposition Nationalist party in several major races across the self-ruled island.

“The international community has raised the stakes too high. They’ve raised a local election to this international level, and Taiwan’s survival,” said Yeh-lih Wang, a political science professor at National Taiwan University.

Candidates from the Nationalist party won the mayoral seat in Taipei, Taiwan’s capital, as well as in Taoyuan, Taichung and New Taipei city. Kao Hung-an, a candidate in the relatively new Taiwan People’s Party, won the mayoral seat in Hsinchu, a city home to many of Taiwan’s semi-conductor companies. Yu Mei-zhu, 60, said she came to cast her ballot for the incumbent Mayor Hou You-yi. “I think he has done well, so I want to continue to support him. I believe in him, and that he can improve our environment in New Taipei City and our transportation infrastructure.”

Coping and seething China “watchers”. The people of Taiwan are Chinese and they celebrate it and have told you and your puppet regime to go pound sand.

DPP fans in the replies

She is a traitor of Taiwan! She tries to work with the Americans and almost got Taiwanese killed.

There's hope

Regional leader of a Chinese province

Like in the case of East & West Germany peaceful reunification is the only logical option. Or! Keep watching Ukraine. BTW looks like China is going to get a lot of US war toys for free.

Bye bye Zelensky of the east ... there goes a puppet of the Unending States of Agitations. She is an irresponsible person dragging the whole of Asia - the home of our families - into nuclear war danger, choosing confrontation to dialogue. Glad to see the last of her

suhasinih 'opposition Nationalist party' mean the party that favor unification with mainland China!

chenweihua So she and Pelosi both stepped down from leadership roles…

suhasinih Taiwan has no interest in US instigation & get destroyed like Ukraine. China don’t want capture Taiwan & want the current arrangement with World transfer best of tech to Taiwan for manufacturing. China developing own abilities in Chip. Shadow boxing are just consumption public

chenweihua Tsai thug has been selling taiwan for her interest, she is a shame of history.

First step, she will be soon thrown away as president with her warmonger team and peace will come back in the region 😃🇨🇳✌️

chenweihua America’s running dog must be sacked

chenweihua Where is Nancy now to protect Taiwan?

Look world, Taiwan will only show you once how to use ballots to teach and take down the dictatorial DPPonline ! 世界看好了!台灣人只示範一次,如何用選票教訓並且下架獨裁的 民進黨!

chenweihua Bye

This is a local election which economy is first. Voters hope KMT will ease the situation and bring economic recovery with mainland China. However, it's still hard to say what the result of presidential election will be, which represents the political direction.

Karma

lol

Over the years,She got enough money from America.

I just hope this doesn't mean they will take their eye off China. Or even begin to acquiesce to some of their demands keeptaiwanfree

It seems that her approach to bringing national issues into local elections backfired.

The Communist Party, the KMT, the DPP... Once they are dyed the color of 'China'...
