star said Friday at the opening of a retrospective of his paintings at a museum in Hagen, Germany.

The Osthaus Museum Hagen has collected around 50 works by the 75-year-old Stallone, the largest ever retrospective of his work. The show covers Stallone’s entire oeuvre, from the late 1960s until today. It runs from Saturday through Feb. 20. Stallone began painting at an early age, inspired by the experimental work of “action painters” like Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, whose influence can be clearly seen in the earlier works on display, which he signed “Mike Stallone.” It was only when these first works didn’t sell that Stallone turned to writing and began his acting career.
