The Olympics being an inter-country competition for medals has never made sense to me. It’s not like say a single team sport where this collective group is deliberately representing a country but here is mostly made up of individual or duo sports where in many cases there are many from the same country competing against each other. Also when countries like the UK can basically just cherrypick talent from the former colonies it makes it even more daft.
I know the reason it exists is because otherwise funding wouldn’t happen but to me it’d be like if we started treating tennis players as representing their country at Wimbledon.
