The Supreme Court agreed to hear two cases that could have broad ramifications for how colleges and universities consider race in their admissions process

that could have broad ramifications for how colleges and universities consider race in their admissions process., SFFA asked the high court to overturn its ruling in a landmark affirmative action case —that has shaped college admissions policies for nearly two decades. SFFA, which represents about 20,000 students, alleges the Ivy League school intentionally discriminates against Asian American students in admissions.

"We are grateful the Supreme Court accepted these important cases for review," SFFA President Edward Blum said in a statement."It is our hope that the justices will end the use of race as an admissions factor at Harvard, UNC and all colleges and universities.” The challenge against Harvard is widely considered to be the court's next opening to potentially ban affirmative action in higher education. Education and civil rights groups have argued that if the court does overturnthey fear race-neutral admissions policies will exacerbate inequality for students of color for years to come.

SFFA, which has led a sweeping crusade attacking the use of race in college admissions, hasn’t won a case in the lower courts yet. But it may finally have the right combination of justices to vote in its favor with a conservative majority on the bench. "The Supreme Court decision to review the unanimous decisions of the lower federal courts puts at risk 40 years of legal precedent granting colleges and universities the freedom and flexibility to create diverse campus communities," Harvard President Lawrence Bacow said in a statement.

In for Republican reaction to this, but never went to college themselves

We should never be in a society that deems everyone is equal but some are more equal than others. Race based admissions does exactly this.

Shouldn’t make any decisions based on race period.

Supreme Court to hear challenge to Harvard, UNC race admission policyThe Supreme Court announced Monday that it will take up a case challenging Harvard University and the University of North Carolina’s consideration of race in their admissions processes. Funny how the people that always cry about free enterprise have NO issue with a group suing to force a private institution to change admission criteria so their race can have an advantage. That's basically affirmative action in a nutshell 🤣 Sotomayor is so far out of touch with reality I can’t believe she’s in one of those seats smh
