Education and civil rights groups have argued that if the court does overturnthey fear race-neutral admissions policies will exacerbate inequality for students of color for years to come.
SFFA, which has led a sweeping crusade attacking the use of race in college admissions, hasn’t won a case in the lower courts yet. But it may finally have the right combination of justices to vote in its favor with a conservative majority on the bench. "The Supreme Court decision to review the unanimous decisions of the lower federal courts puts at risk 40 years of legal precedent granting colleges and universities the freedom and flexibility to create diverse campus communities," Harvard President Lawrence Bacow said in a statement.
