The Supreme Court, with eight justices taking part, failed to reach a decision last term when it reviewed a federal appeals court ruling in a separate case that threw out a state murder conviction and death sentence. In that case, the appeals court said the crime occurred on land assigned to the tribe before Oklahoma became a state and Congress never clearly eliminated the Creek Nation reservation it created in 1866.
The case the justices decided Thursday involved 71-year-old Jimcy McGirt, who is serving a 500-year prison sentence for molesting a child. Oklahoma state courts rejected his argument that his case does not belong in Oklahoma courts and that federal prosecutors should instead handle his case. McGirt could potentially be retried in federal court, as could Patrick Murphy, who was convicted of killing a fellow tribe member in 1999 and sentenced to death. But Murphy would not face the death penalty in federal court for a crime in which prosecutors said he mutilated the victim and left him to bleed to death on the side of a country road about 80 miles southeast of Tulsa.
Casinos for everyone!!!
Basically, they an go around killing people...
I bet Trumps fuming Gorsuch was the swing vote. I’m glad the Indians won. We stole their land. We are the immigrants.
Glad the Indians finally got something back they really never lost. Congress never cared lol
Well this land was the Native Americans land, before we came here and murdered many of them, enslaved them, etc and took their lands
Now build the wall. Keep Trump out.
Allen58B They've got rights too!!
All treaties with the native Americans people should be respected no matter how long ago they were signed and enacted. The distrust native Americans feel towards the federal government is justified by history
Good it was the Native Americans land in the first place!!
Good for the Supreme Court.
Tulsa is officially on Indian territory - no longer in US or state of Oklahoma.
Read the whole thing and ruling you ignorant bunch of China loving liars. Thought I was reading something from the NBA
Why because now OK has to let people out of for profit prisons because they had zero legal jurisdiction? Let them out that on OK for breaking the law.
Oklahoma legislature and municipalities are used to just doing whatever they want with impunity! It is about time they are subjected to the Constitution and federal rulings.
honor the treaties
If you saw me on the streets, you’d call me white. But I am a descendant of the Lenape tribe. Displaced from Delaware to Oklahoma. And I’d like for a lot of you to get the f*ck outbof our country.
You say that like returning stolen land is a bad thing 🤔
PetraMcCarron2 It's always been their land. They made the right decision.
To bad
Finally some justice.
Guess they should’ve thought about that before they stole this land.

PetraMcCarron2 It’s all stolen land!
