BREAKING NEWS. - Supreme Court limits EPA in curbing power plant emissions - KPRC2 SCOTUS

FILE - Steam billows from a coal-fired power plant Nov. 18, 2021, in Craig, Colo. The Supreme Court on Thursday, June 30, 2022, limited how the nations main anti-air pollution law can be used to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from power plants. By a 6-3 vote, with conservatives in the majority, the court said that the Clean Air Act does not give the Environmental Protection Agency broad authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants that contribute to global warming.

"A decision of such magnitude and consequence rests with Congress itself, or an agency acting pursuant to a clear delegation from that representative body,” he wrote. The power plant case has a long and complicated history that begins with the Obama administration’s Clean Power Plan. That plan would have required states to reduce emissions from the generation of electricity, mainly by shifting away from coal-fired plants.

Adding to the unusual nature of the high court’s involvement, the reductions sought in the Obama plan by 2030 already have been achieved through the market-driven closure of hundreds of coal plants.

U.S. Supreme Court expands state power over Native American tribesWASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday dramatically increased the power of states over Native American tribes and undercut its own 2020 ruling that had expanded tribal authority in Oklahoma, handing a victory to Republican officials in that state. In a 5-4 decision authored by conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the court ruled in favor of Oklahoma in its bid to prosecute Victor Castro-Huerta, a non-Native American convicted of child neglect in a crime committed against a Native American child - his 5-year-old stepdaughter - on the Cherokee Nation reservation. This so good, otherwise people will try to use their ' cards' to get away with crimes. This is a victory for justice! Indigenous US Tribes will continue to be purposely middle-fingered by this stacked R supreme court The Tribes were not staffed to competently take on the roll of law enforcement for half the state. Criminals were going unpunished or even arrested.

Abortion battles in state courts after Supreme Court rulingAbortion bans are temporarily blocked in Louisiana and Utah, while a federal court in South Carolina says a law sharply restricting the procedure can take effect there immediately. There is no constitutional protection for abortion, that’s why it ended. A Supreme Court decision does not amend the Constitution. Please stop lying to people. A Supreme Court Decision was overturned and now States are in charge of Non-Constitutional Abortion laws. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
