A lawsuit filed against the University of California alleges that the university system discriminates against low-income students, racial minorities and others by requiring SAT or ACT admissions tests

The suit was filed Tuesday in California state court on behalf of a high-school sophomore, two seniors, and a first-year student at Pasadena City College, all of whom it says would be strong candidates for more selective UC campuses except for their test scores.

No matter how you slice it, the admissions requirements favor the wealthy. Why wouldn’t they? Good grades, good test scores, leadership opportunities, and non-academic hobbies and interests are all easier to clear with more money. And they are better students for it.

What next? Grades?

AsianPrivilege

Let’s see, people with money spend it to get their kids enough extra help to pass the test. Most of them can’t meet the academic standards of these colleges without that extra EXPENSIVE tutoring. That gives kids with money the edge.

Man dis test rassist

1. Maybe we should eliminate all tests. Anyone can be a doctor, attorney, pilot, dentist or architect without taking a test. If u feel like u can do it, let’s just allow. Kind of like how anyone can be a journalist. Anyone on the plane should get to try takeoff and landings. I’m

I've been interviewing a bunch of people who do not know how to write this week. It will only make the problem worse. This kind of attitude is pathetic and counterproductive.

Insanity.

Results: An education system brought down to the level of no- goods instead of raising people to their highest level of capabilities.

these clowns aren't even suing the college board?

America provides sufficient education opportunities. Don’t ruin our top research schools. Those schools are not only for your education, but for our nation’s future. STEM w/o exams? Google job w/o interviews? Don’t weaken this nation if you truly love it.

A trly absurd law suit. The University of California has to have some way of judging performance in addition to imperfect grading systems. Doing away with tearing is not the answer and will lower academic standard.

ur kidding right?

those tests r really rigged for lengthy preparation, not for objective academic competencies. Go for GPA!

Having academic standards is discriminatory. Students should be admitted on wokeness points only.

So according to this lawsuit Universities should start admitting students that can’t read and write or do arithmetic. 🤡

Typical... change the rules if you can’t win. Again people are taking away personal responsibility that allows the freedoms we have. Free to succeed, free to fail.

Bullshit!

Intelligence is racist and sexist. There ought to be a law against intelligence and ESPECIALLY against taking intelligence into account in making a decision on admission to an institute of higher learning.

I’m kinda for this. The tests are way over rated. I scored middle of the pack and did way better than most of my college classmates with high SAT scores. College is more about a willingness to learn and intellectual perseverance. The tests fail to measure that.

Instead of lowering our standards why don't we find a way to address improving the low-income and minority students scores.

So just anybody could get in. It’s overt attempt to destroy hierarchy and winners and losers. It also makes the degrees pretty much useless.

Fine. Get the loans and grants THEN find out you aren't ready for college work. Pay back every cent.

Life isn’t easy going forward snowflakes, so prepare for it! What next? Sue Google/Microsoft cause the interview questions are too hard ?

Lol

Reading this book that stated the elites of technology - Jobs, Gates, Google guys, Musk, etc. - believe most future Americans wouldn't find work because they would be intellectually inferior to AI. So true.

Consider “admissions practices” at Harvard, “recent admissions scandals” where academic credentials and SAT/ACT scores were basically bogus.

Cannibalism

How ridiculous! This diversity crap has to be stopped, before our higher education system goes down the toilet, in the footsteps and demise of our public schools. Study hard, don’t text & watch idiocies on your phones... and you’ll make it by your own merits.

Clear that wealthier have more opportunities for coaching but this is moving to the lowest common denominator. Not really a recipe for greatness.

What’s next? Requiring reading and writing? The nerve.

So basically they are saying poor people are dumb.. Same excuse they use for people not having ID to vote.. It's liberal white washed racism...

This country is circling the drain

Uhhh, expected to see better answers on here. Being competitive in these tests requires hundreds if not thousands of dollars in prep books, flash cards, courses, coaching, other fuckery. This is not new, but I'm glad it's somewhat becoming more popular a topic

The world needs more ditch diggers.

Soooo universities that don't have scholalastic entry requirements? OK then. Makes sense.

Yes yes...why take a test to prove you have the intellect and aptitude to matriculate in an institution of Higher learning when we all know the Scholastic method of learning has been abandoned and replaced with the new more inclusive Progressive Social Justice Feelings method.

So what do they want? Just to show up and register?

We are really raising an entire generation of people who think that they should get what they want just because they want it. This is a very “participation trophy” kind of bullshit.

Maybe GRE should also be placed on this list...

Love this. Let’s really dumb down our education system

This is absolutely priceless comedy.

Yes life...actually outside the US it is required you have qualification to be in IT. American are losing and not by one person buy by adolescent ideology.

Yes, requiring people entering college to possess a basic level of knowledge is 'racist'.... 🙄 God help us.

Those who can't meet the standards sue to remove them 🤦‍♂️🤯

And this is what you get from a generation that thinks they are entitled to everything they want without having to actually put any effort into getting it.

They need to find a better reason.

LMAO! Wtf?!

$14,000+ yearly tuition, and a $100 fee for a test is discrimination? Lower your standards regardless

This is NOT new news.
