Unfortunately, Sweden's capital will not reach this milestone in May.

Nearly half of the country's more than 4,000 COVID-19 deaths have occurred in elderly care facilities., support the measures Tegnell's agency has recommended. Even without a nationwide lockdown, the Sweden's economy has taken a hit as people continue to follow their government's guidelines and stay at home.

Subjecting everyone in a population to infection isn’t herd immunity in the modern world; it’s the opposite. In the modern world of germ theory, herd immunity is preventing infection thru vaccination so those who can’t be vaccinated are protected by a low base rate of infection.

There are 2 factors that the 'stay at home' protesters in the US have failed to take into account when comparing their situation to Sweden's. The Swedes are generally healthier as a population than Americans and they took pains to protect their most vulnerable population.

While I have no desire whatsoever to follow the Swedish model of Covid containment, I would LOVE to follow the Swedish model of political discourse. The Swedish political and public health leaders come across as adults and entirely trustworthy.

They’re nowhere close, but have the top death rate/population in Europe to show for it. It’s very disappointing for a country that normally has a stellar public health record.
