The radical theory that state legislatures have total power over federal elections is at the heart of Trump’s past, and perhaps future, coup attempts

Trump was being strategic, not simply chaotic, in inciting the mob on January 6. Photo: Tayfun Coskun/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images The slow drip of details about the activities of Donald J. Trump and his associates just before and during the January 6 Capitol Riot is beginning to bring into focus their actual strategy for stealing the 2020 presidential election.

It is very likely, if not necessarily provable, that Trump wanted his mob of supporters to head to the Capitol for the same purpose: not just to wreak havoc, but to stop the final confirmation of Biden’s win in hopes that Republican legislators would finally intervene to revoke the certification of Biden electors.

The same theory, without the “stop the vote counting” remedy, was later pursued by Trump and his allies to dispute the Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin elections on grounds that executive-branch officials in those states usurped decision-making powers legislatures were not allowed to delegate under Article I of the U.S. Constitution.

The Republican leaders of the Pennsylvania Senate, who had resisted pressure from Trump to nullify Biden’s victory, had just signed their names to a letter averring that the commonwealth’s election results “should not have been certified by our Secretary of State.” The letter, addressed to Republican leaders in Congress, went on to “ask that you delay certification of the Electoral College to allow due process as we pursue election integrity in our Commonwealth.

Trump-tied group pushing for voting changes in WisconsinA group formed to support former President Donald Trump's agenda is working with Wisconsin Republicans on a ballot measure that would bypass the state's Democratic governor to change how elections are run in the battleground state. The effort represents a new escalation in the ongoing Republican campaign to alter voting laws in response to Trump’s false claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election. It comes as Wisconsin has become the epicenter of this year’s voting wars, with Republicans trying to dismantle the election system they themselves put in place several years ago — and figure out how to do that with a Democratic governor still in office.

Memorable moments from Bob Dole's life and political career | AP NewsHe dreamed of becoming a doctor, but after Bob Dole lost the use of his right arm in World War II he went into politics instead. Here are some of the memorable moments from the late senator's decades in public life. Institutionalized racism, misogyny, homophobia, and white Christian separatism as party platform. No matter how 'conservative' Republicans claimed to be, The Southern Strategy was the core value and singular driving force for the past 60 years. MAGA isn't a symptom, it's result I think the best response to Senators Dole is RIP. Don’t act like a Trump supporter! This is my favorite memory, working for a Russian Oligarch Mobster

Former GOP Sen. David Perdue will challenge Brian Kemp in Georgia governor primaryAfter supporting Gov. Brian Kemp in the 2018 election, former Sen. David Perdue is now challenging him. Trump has openly pushed for Perdue to run and often attacked Kemp. From gpbnews: gpbnews Don’t think the proletariat is going for the ruling class this time around… gpbnews Wow if Perdue does to his constituents what he does to chickens, we should be very scared. Dirty, scummy, unhealthy, unethical, wage stealing just in his own company. Can u imagine what he'd do with taxpayer money? gpbnews A vote for Perdue is a vote for a Constitutional crisis in 2024. Trump’s only beef with Kemp was his unwillingness to overturn the Georgia election results. Perdue’s job will be to contest election results. But he’s welcome to deny it by criticizing Trump’s actions then.
