Updated March 3, 2021 3:31 pm ETSome of the biggest U.S. retail, theater, hotel and restaurant chains say they will continue mandating masks and limiting capacity in Texas after the state drops Covid-related restrictions next week. The move by Gov. Greg Abbott to “open Texas 100%” has divided the business community, with some welcoming the move, while others say it puts the state at risk of a backslide and will make it harder for businesses to enforce safety protocols.
Most businesses in the state could already operate at 75% capacity, so the Republicangovernor’s mask shiftraised larger questions.Hyatt Hotels Corp, Target Corp., Starbucks Corp. and CVS Health Corp., are among the major corporations saying they have no plans to drop mask requirements. Gym operator Life Time Fitness Inc., Albertsons Cos. and a number of local restaurants plan to stop mandating masks or return to normal capacity, or both.
“I already get screamed at when people don’t want to wear their mask,” said Yasmeen Tadia, owner of Make Your Life Sweeter Brands. “If that happens with the mandate how am I going to manage without it?” The business primarily served high-end and celebrity events before the pandemic, but with that business gone, Ms. Tadia switched to online retailing and opened a restaurant at a Dallas mall. headtopics.comRead more: The Wall Street Journal »
Justice Department to investigate Minneapolis policing practices after George Floyd's death
The Justice Department has launched a federal civil probe into policing practices in Minneapolis following the death of George Floyd and the murder convictions for ex-cop Derek Chauvin, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Wednesday.
Ok that’s their right until the competition starts kicking their ass with “no masks” signs. Then you’ll see the moral smugness melt like a snow ball in Dallas July heat. Can’t wait to start seeing videos of mask less Texans crying about their freedom. Good, don't go there. I bet they will change if people vote with their wallets 🤷🏽♂️
Texas State a Fool dropping mask mandate This is not about COVID19 but GreatReset Chains WANT it ! Economic and nazist interests have found a health pretext to predominate Covid preDOMINION There are a ton of mom & pop shops that are so happy to hear this. 🤷🏻♂️ Note that 'biggest' will continue to blah blah. But the smaller guys will open fully because they need to and should. The vulnerable will continue their caution. And the rest can get back to normalcy, as they should, and the world will not end.
The only difference is that the front-line employees will no longer have the state backing them up when they have to deal with the armed anti-mask nutcases. pretty strict rules during upcoming election week for gov im sorry you have to wear a mask Don't mess with Texas, Mr Governor Simple solution.... spend your money at places not run by fascist ideological. They deserve to fail
Texas will be shut down again within months if not weeks.. Thank Buddha! MOST Texans are not STUPID, like their Governor, Greg Abbott. ok A shame these Givernors are now putting the responsibility of handling the “Freedom Karen’s” raging on those $7.25 front line workers at these businesses! That’s only because they are afraid of the woke mob.
Good thank you very much for your work Perfect. So don’t complain about profit... How do you drink a Starbucks drink with a mask on? Recently my friend's baby was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia & needs a stem cell transplant. Jason & his wife are first-time parents caring for a sick baby & could use some help. If you are in a place to donate or share, it would be appreciated.
Greg Abbott would like nothing better than to say he was right and Biden was wrong but looking to score political points while putting Texans at risk is nothing more than irresponsible behavior . He doesn't seem to care that 200 people are dying every day and cases are going up . And what does that really say about the supposed leadership in Texas where movie theaters are the voice of reason? Pathetic.
That was the point, 'government' is getting out of the way. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻good for them👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻 But my great leader Trump said NO MASK! So I obey his will! He said I need to be marked with the hat of conformity...so others will know I am an ignorant as*! Comforting to see some people in power actually taking life-saving measures seriously. Good to see this. Thank God someone has some sense - cuz it certainly isn't Abbott. Get woke, go broke It's a great realization -- Your Safety Is ONLY Your Responsibility Out come the Karens Yeah, but it lets the gov off the hook and allows them to pocket unemployment insurance and small business covid funds to the states ....
Yoga pant, visor wearing, barista abusing Karen Meltdown coming soon.
