‘Squid Game’ Creator Says He’s in Talks With Netflix About Season 3

Spoiler, but can someone please explain the ending to me? I didn’t get it. Did he turn around because he decided to renter the games? Or was he on some sort of vendetta? And why didn’t he go through with his promises and help her brother and his friends mom?
