Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has shown her support for the Breast Cancer Now event which will show women how to check their breasts live on Twitter

The social media platform has partnered with charity, Breast Cancer Now, to encourage more women to check their breasts for irregularities.Described as the first-ever uncensored Twitter Live event, a nurse from the charity will demonstrate how to carry out a breast check examination.

The #TouchLookCheck campaign takes place on Thursday 28 October from 8pm, to coincide with the end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.Twitter has also launched a special Breast Cancer Now emoji which will appear every time the hashtag is used. Geri was one of the first people to pay tribute to Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding when she passed away from breast cancer at the age of 39 in September.

At the time, the 49-year-old wrote: “Rest in peace, Sarah Harding. You’ll be remembered for the light and joy you brought to the world. X.”The former pop star, who had a breast cancer scare herself in her twenties but was thankfully given the all clear after having a lump removed, is now supporting the Breast Cancer Now event. headtopics.com

She tweeted: “Remember to regularly #TouchLookCheck and get to know your breasts.“It’ll help you spot any new or unusual changes. Not only in Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but all year round. Checking could make all the difference.” This Morning ’s Lisa Snowdon, who has previously had a breast cancer scare, is also backing the campaign.

Using the hashtag, she said: “#TouchLookCheck and GET TO KNOW your breasts! Checking could make all the difference. I’ve checked mine, have you checked yours?”While TV presenter Michaela Strachan wrote: “October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so be aware, remember 2 regularly #TouchLookCheck & GET TO KNOW your breasts!

“Checking could make all the difference. It’s 7 years since I was diagnosed, if I hadn’t checked, I might not have been here to tweet this!” Research reveals that over a third of women (39%) in Britain don’t check their breasts regularly for signs and symptoms of breast cancer.

More than half (53%) of women asked admitted forgetting to do so. While almost a fifth (16%) said they didn’t know how to check their own breasts properly.Others said they didn’t know what to look for (12%) or were worried about finding a new or unusual change (11%), according to the YouGov research, funded by Asda. headtopics.com

Two thirds of breast cancers are found in women who have recently noticed an unusual change and gone to see their GP.The sooner the breast cancer is found, the more successful treatment is likely to be.Baroness Delyth Morgan, Chief Executive at Breast Cancer Now, said: "Checking your breasts or chest takes just a couple of minutes, but could make all the difference.
