'It's time to just keep your phones for a year,' jeffersongraham writes. 'Because upgrading makes more economic sense.' Here's why:

And considering that these older phones have more years on them, the odds of them being in tip-top shape and nabbing the amount of money Apple touts is remote.wants you to upgrade too with sweet trade-in deals. Granted, the South Korean giant differs from Apple in that it upgrades its phones not once a year, but many times – can you name all the Galaxy S and Note models released in the last few months? But when it comes to improved cameras and refresh rates, it's easy.

For the new Galaxy S20, which sells for $999, Samsung will give you $450 in credit with a trade-in of last year's S10, $300 for the 2019 S9 or $225 for the S8. And just to confuse you even further, the carriers have basically turned the corner, and are sort of offering free phones and deals again with new two-year contracts., will give you a free iPhone 12 with a trade-in of an iPhone 11 Pro and a 30 month commitment to paying $68.49 monthly for an"Unlimited" plan.

T-Mobile throws a $150 gift card on top of your trade-in, once you sign up for service, while Verizon sells you the phone over time, for $14.95 monthly for existing customers or $10.37 monthly for new customers, with a 2 year term, on top of the trade-in. Again, you'll pay more for the phone this way., which offers no-interest, monthly installments for the new phone, over a 2 year period. With a $400 trade-in on the iPhone 11 Pro, you're looking at $20.79 monthly.

jeffersongraham What a sell out! What a disgusting article. Capitalism at its worst.

jeffersongraham And the West's obsession with 'having the latest' harms the environment...

jeffersongraham So it makes economic sense to needlessly spend $500+ a year while you could reduce that to less than $100 if you just keep your old phone? Do you really think we are THAT stupid?

jeffersongraham Jefferson is absolutely 100% an Apple fanboy. This is the most Apple fanboy advice I have ever heard. Need to upgrade annually to use the same 4 apps?

jeffersongraham Terrible advise, USA TODAY you lost your credibility with these kind of ignorant articles

jeffersongraham I don’t understand the headline, doesn’t it contradict itself

jeffersongraham

jeffersongraham Sadly, The article doesn’t show the modeling of cash out over the life of a phone and total cost outlay. Anyone believing this approach via the article is sadly naive

jeffersongraham I just downsized to SE. I am hopeful it will last as long as my 6+. Plus purchased IPAD. Total cost was less than the newest iPhone.

jeffersongraham No thanks.

jeffersongraham Or, buy an used/unlocked phone on eBay for $150. Phone manufacturers & cell carriers have been in cahoots for years. Most of the hype is psychological marketing warfare.

jeffersongraham sure if you have enough money to upgrade them for each family member, but how about those who don't?

jeffersongraham Yes, but... if you keep your phone 3+ years you make out better. I bought an 8+ 2.5 years ago. I skipped your plan & saved $1,200 the last two years. Even if I buy a $1k phone in 6 mo w/o a trade in I’m ahead $800. I also would have paid $0.95/day for the 8+.

jeffersongraham I'm still on a 2017 Xiaomi Redmi 4x, still getting updates 👍

jeffersongraham So dumb, sounds like a door-to-door security system salesperson pitch. “For only $1.65 per day you too can own the latest device.” My iPhone 8 is 3+ yrs old and works great.

jeffersongraham

jeffersongraham well yeah of course it's better for the industry and the economy to force people to buy a new phone every year...who cares about how wasteful that is, or how most people can't afford to choose to do something like that...

jeffersongraham

jeffersongraham No, Jefferson Graham. What are you, an iPhone salesman? YOU and all the millennials can buy a new phone every year with the big screen, and the 3 cameras blah blah blah. I’m fine with my old one, but thanks for the “tip”.

jeffersongraham I just got a XR after having an iPhone 6 for almost 5 years! It worked fine that whole time and was kept in perfect condition. That being said, I might get the new 12 next year! 🤣🤣

jeffersongraham I couldn't find the punchline in this story? Did someone take an obious bit of satire and edit it into a straight story?

jeffersongraham No, you don’t - this is idiocy. Use a decent protective case, and you can easily keep your smartphone serviceable for 3 to 4 years. No problem. How much advertising does iPhone and Samsung do in USA Today, BTW?

jeffersongraham You have got to be kidding me with this.

jeffersongraham The thing we should do coincides with the shape of the corral the corporate power structures have set up to herd us into. How convenient!

Exclusive: Sephora Canada Launches First Diwali CampaignThe campaign is the latest in Sephora Canada's 'We Belong To Something Beautiful' campaign series, first launched in 2019 to honour 'the inclusion of all communities shaping Canada.' Sephora this is interesting. I see that sephoracanada is claiming this to be part of their diversity strategy but really? Diversity is not about just putting BIPOC on your billboard. Its not just about the models. Other than the 3 girls, everyone on the team is white.
