An elephant's tusks are among its defining features -- they help the animal lift heavy branches, topple trees, strip bark, fight, and dig holes for water and minerals.
But an increasing proportion of female elephants in Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park have been born without these crucial tools, and scientists say it's an evolutionary response to the brutal killing of elephants for their ivory tusks during the country's 15-year civil war.Elephant experts working in the park had begun to notice the phenomenon after the war ended in 1992.
This should be due to genetic abnormality not evolution.

This is complete bull shit. Elephants have been born without tusk for thousands of years. Now if u want to say hunting is increasing the population of tuskless elephants, ok. If u want to call that evolution it’s disingenuous but whatever, its CNN
Wow!!
I’ve been swimming a lot lately. Hoping to have gills by next summer
15 years? Highly doubt it.
People always trying to reinforce their beliefs. This is survival of the fittest. More genes being passed down from tuskless elephants because they are not being killed
News flash.....Evolution takes thousands of years
If this wasn't bullshit, why do Jews still have to have a bris?
I’m no scientist, but I don’t think evolution at such a prominent level occurs thst fast.
Well disgusting humans will then probably find some other thing they will want to kill them for!!!
It may be in response to climate change. Green house affect.. Not in the process of evolution..
Christians would say it's God, evolution is not real 😒🤦😏😁😁
I don't agree...it is not a process of evolution....it may be in response to pollution
This is just a Lie. As always CNN. Do a real journalism
Nonsense.

NPR Cookie Consent and ChoicesEvolution fighting back against poachers. You’d think NPR would have coherently worded headlines/tweets, and you’d be wrong. The ones born without tusks are the ones left to breed. I hope they can survive without the tusks and have tons of babies.
