SoCalGas sticker shock: Increase in bills feels like 'highway robbery,' some customers say

PORTER RANCH, LOS ANGELES -- Joni Hoffman and Joette Snyder, who both live in the same community in Porter Ranch, say their SoCalGas bills went up dramatically in the past month - from $45 to $198 for Joette and from $57 to $237 for Joni.

SoCalGas says bills are usually at their highest all year during the winter when more natural gas is needed to heat homes and run appliances. Also the California Public Utilities Comission approved a rate hike effective this year to help upgrade infrastructure.

It’s insane, almost criminal! Gas bill almost tripled from one month to the next! Don’t know how they can justify these charges.

Something not right. I have seen three people's bills that live alone and just for the Gas portion the Therms go up a 1000% since last year, not just the price but amount of usage. Mine was up from average of 8 to 10 therms per mth for the last 4 yrs to 55 therms.

I just looked at my bill. Start October, using the same amount of gas, has gone up $10 more each month, USING the same amount.

Yep mine went from $62 to $124 in an 800 sq ft house and I live alone. Now I’m layering clothes to lower my thermostat but my nose and hands are freezing. HOW CAN IT DOUBLE WHEN I DUDNT CHANGE ANYTHING? 😡🥶

I fat ass usually doesn't require heat, but when I do during some special winter months, my bill doubles.. I like to keep my den toasty.
