Using a slow cooker (or the Slow Cook function on a multi-cooker) guarantees a fall-off-the-bone result without having to labor over a hot grill or smoker for hours.

- Added a few dashes of liquid smoke to the slow cooker liquid for some smokiness- Do be careful moving the ribs around, I tried picking them up by the bone and the bone nearly popped right out--so they're definitely fall off the bone tenderLeft out cayenne for my kids and these were still great. Finished on the grill for 10 min, which gave some nice browning. Do make sure you skim the fat off of the sauce. I didn't get enough of it, so it was a bit fatty.

Made these today and WOW they were great. Have tried for 40 years and failed and this recipe sooooo easy. Slow cooker was the key.I made these ribs this evening and they were great. They cooked perfectly in 3 and 1/2 hours on high and were falling off the bone tender. I strained the cooking liquid into a fat separator and was left with just the flavorful base for the sauce.

Cabbage Bake Recipe on Food52When my parents first moved to Indianapolis, they—like the many people who also immigrated here from India—didn't have much of a community. As time passed, we built our own little Indian community, one that is as close-knit as ever today. On one occasion, we went to a family friend's house where a lady named Nandini (my mother's friend) made what she called a 'Cabbage Bake.' My mother had never seen nor heard of such a dish, and Nandini Aunty (as I call her) told her that it was something her housekeeper used to make for her family back in New Delhi. Ever since, Nandini Aunty rarely makes the dish, while my mother began to make it during Dussehra, a ten-day festival where we invite many women and children to our house to celebrate. We often put out a large spread of food and it always includes this dish. It's a dish from nowhere: Though it has South Indian flashes and contains many common North Indian spices, I've never come across anything quite like it. While my mother will sometimes make it when we have extended family visiting or for a special occasion, the dish is still reserved for that ten-day festival and we make batches upon batches, as people flock to the dish like horses to water. It runs out almost instantly.

Ginger Sangria Recipe on Food52This recipe I recently adapted from Country Living (probably the closest I have ever come to country living). I was searching for a recipe that included simple syrup so that I could infuse the syrup with ginger. In addition to boiling the ginger in the simple syrup, I added slices of ginger to the syrup to sit overnight to intensify the flavor. This is optional. To keep the sangria cool, fill an old orange juice quart with water and freeze overnight. Cut the paper away from the ice and add the block of ice to the sangria before serving.
