I envisioned it and it actually happened.”the album originally released September 28, 2004, and introduced Ciara to the music scene as a tall, sassy, sexy siren.
“I was really proud to be part of the new movement and the new sound,” she said. “It was having those bass heavy records, a little more hip-hop leaning, but when you mix it with the pop and R&B melodies, it created a really unique sound. Lil Jon came in with a fresh sound and went against the grain of what traditional pop was for the time period and I was the first girl to do it, so I was really proud of that and will be forever proud of that.
That first album did well both in the United States and abroad, debuting at #3 on the Billboard 200 and eventually earning 3x platinum status as determined by the Recording Industry Association of America. Since then, the album has sold more than five million copies worldwide, and garnered two Grammy noms for Best New Artist and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for"1, 2 Step."
Born Ciara Princess Harris, the singer has stayed relevant since entering the scene. Currently married to Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and in constant rotation on the performance and television scene, she seemingly makes headlines weekly. Most recently she was named host of ESPN 2’s Sports Humanitarian Awards and this past summer,, she and Derek Hough hosted Macy’s NBC’s Macy’s July 4 Parade.
