Simone Biles, of the United States, walks after performing on the vault during the artistic gymnastics women's final at the 2020 Summer Olympics, Tuesday, July 27, 2021, in Tokyo. USA Gymnastics announced Sunday that the six-time Olympic medalist has opted not to compete on floor, where she won gold in Rio de Janeiro and placed second in qualifying last week.USA Gymnastics said Biles has not decided whether to participate in the balance beam final, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
Biles has already chosen not to compete in the uneven bars and vault finals, set for Sunday evening at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre. She was not expected to medal on bars, but is the Olympic champion on vault. Biles is dealing with a mental block that in gymnastics is referred to as “the twisties.” In other words, Biles is having trouble figuring out where her body is in relation to the ground when in the air.Biles has been dominant on floor exercise during her elite career, winning five world championships along with her triumph in Rio. Her innovative tumbling has redefined what is possible on the podium. She has two tumbling pass dismounts named after her in the sport’s Code of Points.
They will do whatever possible to get her a metal ,should have sent her home
''Simone Biles' ADHD medication is banned in Japan, but a Tokyo 2020 exemption allowed them for athletes''
Miss Biles has given her life to the sport and has brought home 31 Olympic & world medals. We owe her our thanks and support. She owes us nothing other then to remain healthy and safe.
Smart choice...
I mean there should have been an examination that determines if you are fit to participate or not. To determine that you are really telling the truth about what’s going on. And why all the drama . why not drop out of all and save us hype and anxiety ? Is it a popularity stunt?
No one cares. Go do your commercials and talk shows. We all know you will have someone write a book for you and be on Oprah. We also know you will get a high paying job with the olympics sitting on a mental health board of some type.
I can only imagine she has the weight of the world on her shoulders. BUT, I don't understand why are we celebrating people giving up?
Wear a mask
Neat. Now will the focus of every second of the individual finals be her cheering on her teammates cause she is so brave? *yawn*
I like world class CHAMPION athletes that aren't afraid to respect themselves enough to stay healthy and alive.
Send her home, ffs
Shameful
Do what is best for yourself, for you know, You've given the world your best, it's You we do owe! Hours of training & triumphant you've been, Caring for yourself will be your greatest Win! Stay well, Stay Healthy In mind, body, & soul, May Peace & Serenity be your ultimate goal!
She has mental health problems ok. She quits ok it's her right and understandable but can't help thinking, she's been a gymnast for years now and just now all of a sudden she talks about twisties and demons, can this happen in such a sudden way? She never experienced this before?
Mental block is not the correct term for this.
It takes tremendous courage to admit in front of the entire world that you are having mental health concerns. Simone Biles should be commended. She’s doing what is best for herself & putting her safety first. For too long athletes have been told to shut up & play, but not anymore
Simone Billes is single handedly offering others a chance at gold, haters should be grateful!
Snowflake generation.
I feel for her, but I think maybe it's time to concentrate and comment on the athletes who are there and still competing.
🤷🏽♂️
I’m about tired of hearing about her! Please move on 💯✅
If she had quit before the Olympics she would have said no to a lot of $$$
