'Severe lung injury’ cases possibly linked to vaping, health experts say

'These cases are extremely complex to diagnose, as symptoms can mimic a common infection yet can lead to severe complications,' one Minnesota doctor said.

The Minnesota Department of Health is asking health care providers to be on alert for lung diseases related to vaping and e-cigarette use among young adults after a hospital reported several “severe” cases.

'These cases are extremely complex to diagnose, as symptoms can mimic a common infection yet can lead to severe complications,' one Minnesota doctor said.

“We are encouraging providers and parents to be on the lookout for vaping as a cause for unexplained breathing problems and lung injury and disease," said Dr. Ruth Lynfield, state epidemiologist and MDH medical director.

In part, this is because the nicotine present in most of them is addictive and can harm parts of the young adult brain that control attention, learning, mood and impulse control, all of which are still developing until about age 25, according to the CDC.

In December 2018, the surgeon general released an advisory on e-cigarette use, calling it an “epidemic” among youth.

Who woulda thunk it moral: don’t vape or use e-cigs The kids are vaping bc of the BULLSHIT given them that vamping was safer then smoking tobacco. The substance of chemicals in the vape is enough to send anyone on a fast trip to the morgue with painful lung problems. Some of this crap is bought and sold on the street.

I don’t get how we spent years bringing down the tobacco industry and educating people on the dangers of smoking but now pot use and vaping is seemingly encouraged I don't get how people think vaping is any different from smoking, since smoke comes out of both... I do not understand how the FDA gave e-cigarettes the go ahead in the first place.

I’ve been following this. I’m a teacher. Many of my students vape, it’s scary. Now this. Did the government lay down and die on this issue? Kids are vaping, and it’s not very regulated. I’m going to scrutinize everything I see on this. Parents are unaware.
