By Karoun Demirjian Karoun Demirjian Congressional reporter focusing on national security Email Bio Follow May 23 at 4:26 PM The Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday released its plan to authorize a record-setting $750 billion in defense spending next fiscal year in a bill that also bans the transfer of F-35s to Turkey until the nation cancels a purchase of Russian missile defense systems.

Trump’s resistance to congressional efforts to monitor and restrict the U.S.-Saudi relationship is one of several factors that prompted the House and Senate to vote earlier this year to end U.S. participation in Yemen’s civil war. Trump quashed that effort with a veto, but the House has revived efforts to pull the United States out of Yemen’s war in its annual spending measure.
