Senate passes bill to award the Congressional Gold Medal posthumously to Emmett Till and his mother.

after witnesses said he whistled at a white woman at a grocery store in rural Mississippi, a violation of the South’s racist societal codes at the time. In return, he was rousted from bed and abducted from a great-uncle’s home in the predawn hours four days later.

The killing galvanized the civil rights movement after Till’s mother insisted on an open casket and Jet magazine published photos of his brutalized body. Sens. Cory Booker, D-N.J. and Richard Burr, R-N.C., introduced the bill to honor Till and his mother with the highest civilian honor that Congress awards. They described the legislation as a long overdue recognition of what the Till family endured and what they accomplished in their fight against injustice. The House version of the legislation is sponsored by Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill. He also has sponsored a bill to issue a commemorative postage stamp in honor of Mamie Till-Mobley.

Now do voting rights

They should be pass voting rights bills also.

'The white man will try to satisfy us with symbolic victories rather than economic equity and real justice.' — Malcolm X

OMG. DESECRATION. Remember him for sure, but THAT doesn't belong.

A medal? GTFOH!!!! If you want to truly honor Mr. Till, dismantle the systemic racist policies embedded into American society. There's an unfair judicial system that unproportionally is severely harsher on POC. Also the white woman who's LIE led to his death must be punished. ✊🏾

Can you posthumously charge the woman who started all this

wow the GQP agreed to that? amazing, of course a Lynching that occurred decades ago has little political consequences for the GQP/MAGA/NAZI. Supporting a lynching victim of now would be unthinkable.

What would start to make the situation right is to arrest the woman who lied and said he touched her.

Can y’all just fix voting rights, please?
