LIVE UPDATES: BernieSanders says Dems' bill won't reduce inflation, is a 'slap in the face' on climate

NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 24: Sen. Bernie Sanders speaks at an Amazon Labor Union rally on April 24, 2022 in New York City.

But Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., killed those efforts last year, and finally agreed to a bill with Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., last week. But it was dramatically scaled back, including more than $700 billion in tax revenue and over $400 billion in spending. "If all 50 members of the Democratic caucus were to stand together today, we could pass some enormously important amendments, which would have a profound impact on improving the lives of working people in our country," Sanders said.

"Despite this, my R friends have made clear they’re completely unwilling to support this bill under any condition," he added."None of their amendments would change that. For this reason, I’ll vote to protect the integrity of the IRA regardless of the substance of their fake amendments.

A vote to move ahead on Democrats' social spending and taxation bill passed Saturday evening, setting up floor debate followed by a marathon vote-a-rama, before a final vote on the legislation that's expected sometime Sunday. It was not expected that Harris would be needed, because several Republicans were out of town and missed votes that happened earliler Saturday. But all of the GOP members made it back to town by the end of the Saturday evening vote.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., told Fox News Digital Saturday that he will be introducing amendments to Democrats' social spending and tax bill, and that he plans to vote for them. "It's my view that this is the only deal that's gonna get us 50 votes," Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., said."It's not the bill I would have written but it's still a very good bill. So I want to make sure that we can maintain 50 votes on final passage."

Democrats will need Vice President Harris to break a 50-50 tie on a motion to start debate on their social spending and taxation bill, after all 50 Republicans voted in the negative Saturday afternoon. Fox News' Kelly Phares reports Sen. Joe Manchin said that he will vote to"protect the integrity of the bill," Saturday when asked if he will support Republican amendments to his social spending and tax bill during a vote-a-rama.

BernieSanders The escapist nonsense that we can 'spend our way out of inflation' reminds me of Brer Rabbit punching the Tar Baby. Each time he flayed out at the lump, he got more entangled. Why? He never bothered to reconsider his efforts as totally the WRONG ONES.

BernieSanders Aww, look at you dabbling in a little progressivism.

BernieSanders Rare Bernie W that will be a common Bernie L in a few short days

BernieSanders so now y’all are giving Bernie Sanders’ a voice after trashing and discrediting him?

BernieSanders

BernieSanders Even Bernie admits it won't. The Congressional OMB says it won't either. 230 top Economists say it won't. Why isn't mainstream media reporting this? Do their love Democrats greater than their duty to honest and fair reporting?

BernieSanders Yeah but keep your eyes peeled for the really cool brand new mega yacht Manchin will be 'buying' soon.

BernieSanders It's a complete scam to rake-in BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to use on politicians pet pork projects.

BernieSanders All those objections and he will still vote yes for trash. Well played.

BernieSanders BernieSanders must be a genius, to come up with that. 😆

BernieSanders Spending more debt Creating more money = debt Only increases inflation !!!

If Dems Fought an All-Out Culture War, They’d Win'The GOP’s furious desire to transform America into Gilead gives Democrats a perfect opportunity to turn the tables in the upcoming midterm elections, but only if they go all-in and commit to fighting the culture war,' writes WajahatAli. WajahatAli Good Lord! You are blind! Your culture war put you in the spot you're in. WajahatAli Suppose 100 people vote. If the GOP gets 48 votes and the Dems get 52 votes, the Dems win. But if, let's say, 10 would-be Dem voters refuse to vote for whatever reason, the GOP wins 48-42. Refusing to vote = Voting for the opponent Do NOT repeat 2016 in 2022. WajahatAli Democrats must stand proudly in support of their base voters. This gives turned off voters the feeling that Dems will fight for them, too. Running away from the base to GOP voters hasn’t worked.
