As beauty consumers are becoming more conscious of the implications of their waste on our planet, the zero-waste movement is gaining momentum. The Nordic beauty industry is paving the way for more sustainable solutions for consumers, but what do we need to do to make a difference? We asked Piritta Fors - CEO at sustainable, zero-waste,“We wish to inspire both consumers and organisations to change by starting a cosmetics revolution.
Conscious observation of what it is that we are seeking in our bathroom cabinets full of plastic bottles, can reveal a lot about the way we see ourselves and the world around us. ‘Don’t buy products as an attempt to make yourself happy – that kind of happiness does not last more than one evening.’ Fors says. A gentle reminder that true happiness and confidence comes from within, and cannot be found on the ingredients list of even the most luxurious beauty product.
Luonkos’ philosophy includes a guilt-free learning curve as Fors takes the pressure off with a few common knowledge tips for shopping: “Become conscious of the ingredients you want to put on yours and your children’s skin and of those ingredient names that are deemed unnecessary and harmful. Avoid products with obvious multilayered and futile packaging materials. I myself try to stay away from plastics and materials that cannot be recycled”.
According to Fors, the must-have zero-waste items for an indulgent evening routine include a facial cleanser, soap, moisturising oil, shampoo and conditioner. “Our facial cleansers are waterless, preservative-free solid bars, or ‘cakes’ as we call them. Theseremove your makeup, clean your skin and even moisturise it”. Although a capsule collection means less is more, it doesn’t mean that we should compromise on nurturing ourselves with efficient ingredients.
