Selena Gomez spoke about her bipolar diagnosis and why she needed to distance herself from social media

is opening up about her bipolar diagnosis and reflecting on how the “nasty” rumors surrounding her treatments for mental health weighed on her.the 29-year-old actress and singer said she was affected by some of the responses when she entered a facility for mental health treatment in 2014 after being diagnosed with lupus. “I don’t even know what they really believed I was doing — drugs, alcohol, running around, partying. The narrative was so nasty,” she said.

Gomez would also eventuallyGomez went on to explain that growing up in the public eye and enduring scrutiny always made her feel “like an object” and “gross,” while physical illnesses also took a toll on her. “My lupus, my kidney transplant, chemotherapy, having a mental illness, going through very public heartbreaks — these were all things that honestly should have taken me down,” she explained.
