Every year winds carry more than 180 million tons of dust from the Sahara Desert across the Atlantic Ocean, depositing much of the particles along the way. 🌬️ These plumes impact everything from extreme weather to the Amazon rainforest! Here's how:

to measure sunlight reflected from Earth. It will help us understand how much heat is being trapped by our planet’s atmosphere. Her mission is designed to help us get a clearer picture than we currently have of the Earth’s system and how it is changing

Although I had learned about Earth remote sensing in my classes, this was my first taste of working with, and understanding the details of, how we could learn more about different aspects of the physical world from satellite measurements. I see jigsaw puzzles as a good illustration of how different members of a science community play a diverse set of roles to work through different problems. Each member is often working on their own image within the greater puzzle, and although it might take them years of work to see their part of the picture come together, each image in the greater puzzle is essential to completing the whole thing.

All praise to ALLAH Almighty is truly MAGNIFICENT. He feeds everyone not leaving a single of his creation but we are not thankful in our everyday life for what we have. Don't doubt, He will never let you go hungry. Thank you for your deep research.

In early June 2021 strong winds blew over Mali and Mauritania and carried dust over Senegal, Gambia and Cape Verde. The storm began on June 4, 2021 and on June 7, dust was already observed and measured over the central Atlantic Ocean.

In June 2020, Saharan dust enveloped the Caribbean Sea and even dimmed the sky of some states in the U.S. southeast. NASA Observing System satellites sensors and ground sensors measured the highest concentration of dust in atmosphere in two decades.

Located off the west coast of North Africa, the islands are at the mouth of a faucet that periodically spills dust carried off the Sahara, across the Atlantic Ocean.

Thick layers of fine reddish-brown soil were found among layers of volcanic rocks and dune sands on Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria islands.

There is also evidence that the desert had break periods, with more humid, greener periods intertwined with dry, waterless times.

This provided a first direct witness of dry land in Sahara found in deep-sea sediments, dated at least 4.6 million years ago.

Research from the Geological Society of America presented at 2019 Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona reveals evidence of dust from Sahara blown over the Canary Islands.

As well, in Mallorca dune sand appears to have been transported from exposed carbonate shelves far inland by winds under cold, dry phases of the Pleistocene.

Some of the sand deposits may be the result of more arid conditions in the past, as in the case of the Plio-Pleistocene sands in the Valdarno Basin of the northern Apennines in Italy.

A dust storm from northern Sahara to the Middle East happened in April 2000, causing the closure of the port of Alexandria and the stop of flights to Aswan. Limasol in Cyprus was seriously affected and flights in southern Turkey, too.

In March 1998, a major dust event caused ports and airports to be closed, created breathing problems for people living in Amman, Jordan. And led to many travel accidents in Egypt and Jordan.

Actually, there are three main dust source areas: western Sahara, Moroccan Atlas and central Algeria.

A major dust source area for transport to western Europe is in southernmost Algeria between Hoggar Massif and Adrar des Iforhas. Another source where material is rich in palygorskite is in west Sahara and south Morocco.

Aerosols may include significant iron concentrations that might influence marine biogeochemistry. As well, dust absorption to the marine environment can stimulate bacterial activity in the water column.

The mineralogical composition of the atmospheric dust shows that aeolian deposition has a significant contribution to the sediments in the offshore waters of the Mediterranean basin, representing 50% and even more.

The dust off Sahara is often deposited in precipitation over Southern Europe. The dust fall in early March 1991 covered an area of about 320,000 square km extending from Sicily in the south to Fennoscandia in the north.

While the dust fertilizes the ocean and provides nutrients that enhance the growth of plankton, they carry fungus and bad bacteria and other microorganisms that harm coral reefs.

Millions of tons of dust come out of Africa every year, crossing the Atlantic on the way to the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.

On June 6, 2019 the MODIS Spectroradiometer on NASA Terra satellite monitored a widespread blanket of dust over Cape Verde Islands, some 400 miles of the coast of Senegal.

Strong winds often throw dust and sand from Sahara desert and transport it across West Africa and over the Atlantic Ocean.

Common human pathogens include the causative agent of cholera, shellfish-associated gastroenteritis and seawater-associated wound infections.

By providing minerals to the Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea, dust can enhance blooms of plant-like marine phytoplankton, which are the base of the food web.

Over the ocean, the dust is a blended blessing.

Saharan dust can travel over the Mediterranean, and also thousands of km across the Atlantic.

Sahara dust sand carries nitrogen, phosphorus and iron, which are essential nutrients for phytoplankton.

Due to their ability to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, the oceans plankton can have an important role in the climate change.

The dust contains nutrients, among them iron acting as a fertilizer that can raise the production of nutrient plankton blooms.

Sand storms are common over Sahara, and large amounts of dust are found in the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean.

Atmospheric convection currents arising when warm, lighter air rises and cold, heavier air goes down enable the transportation of dust from the Sahara Desert over thousands of km.

Satellite observations show how far winds normally spread North African dust particles before rain and gravity pulls them down to the ocean.

The deposition of mineral dust into ocean fertilizes the ecosystem and impacts the biogeochemical cycles and climate, too.

The dust deposition amounts are highest in the Boreal summer and lowest in fall.

The biggest loss of dust occurs in winter, consistent with high possibility of low-altitude transported dust in southern trajectories inhibited by rainfall.

From June through August, the dust particles stream from West Africa toward the Caribbean.

During the year, the wind patterns and the location of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) shift, and the most concentrated dust cargo moves north.

In December and January, strong northeasterly winds from West Africa carry dust southwestward, spreading the highest amounts over the Gulf of Guinea, and developing dust plumes west toward South America.

There is seasonality in the distribution of dust.

The optical observations are based on the amount of light that dust particles scatter and absorb throughout all levels of the atmosphere.

Research published in July 2019 in the 'Journal of the Geophysical Research – Atmospheres' displays maps including regions where the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) recorded dust moving from Africa over the Atlantic Ocean from 2007 to 2016.

North Africa is the largest source of dust in atmosphere.

It's amazing

Intercontinental dust. No dust no water clouds too? What keeps clouds on air? Dust too?

Absolutely cool to see from space, thanks!

There is something more the wind carriers, which is all negativity and coverts it to positivity...this is in-built in nature...let’s keep the wind blowing not only on earth but our life’s too to keep COVID, hatred, ego all away!

And they prevent hurricanes so that's good.

Only, ni more? 500 tons a day 20 tons per hour

I think what they need to do with this new UAP Report if it’s not included people need to do a freedom of information act to get employees from area 51 to testify that all of them have not seen any aliens or alien tech in front of Congress and if they lie it will be perjury.

Yeeey

Ricardo Salles resigned from the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment. Amazon rainforest is not safe while Bolsonaro is in charge.

omg!!! does amazon own a rain forrest now..!!!!!?

Very sweet :)

I swear, if you keep doing this. Everyone will eventually love it.

The world will find this masterpiece later but we are real fans here!

Does that mean sand is their no. 1 export?

They also fertilize the Sargasso Seaweed. Very bad.

You just report, I just a knowledge my self. whatelse can you & me can do. World is with beuracrats

What happens when balloon is in space? do they just not have gravity but keep their size? You guys have any footage of a balloon in space?

Important

This has been happening for MILLIONS of years. Nothing new to see... 😂🤣

Saharan Dust!

Very nice

This is awesome :)

Neat-o!

Weather Modification is what nasa is trying to obfuscate. They are lying every time!!! Do YOUR research so you can’t be lied to by the government and their evil agents.

Only time then will see it all over here one day...and along the way... 🤯😲

That's a lot of dirty cars 👀

The solution is simple: Just build a wall!

Most of it seems to land on my car…

warningshout And most of it ends up landing on my car!

The great fertilization of 2021.

Wow, so some of the sand in Florida is actually Saharan sand.

Omg. Even the weather is guilty of appropriation.

looking like some music notes.

nasa a big lier
