New images of neighboring galaxies by the Hubble Space Telescope and others are helping astronomers explore the mystery of how stars are born.

What is ALMA?Near San Pedro de Atacama in northern Chile, ALMA is one of the highest and driest astronomical observatory sites on Earth. It combines radio wavelength signals from 66 dish-shaped antennas all positioned at an altitude of 4,576 to 5044 meters, which together make one single radio telescope. Used to study molecular gas and dust, ALMA is more powerful than the Hubble Space Telescope.

The ALMA observations allowed astronomers to map about 100,000 cold-gas regions across 90 nearby galaxies, producing an unprecedentedly sharpatlas of stellar nurseries in the close Universe.“By combining these observations with those from ALMA, we’re able to see newborn stars while they’re still surrounded by the blanket of gas they’ve formed from,” said Groves. “The resulting images are absolutely stunning—they allow us a spectacularly colourful insight into the stellar nurseries of our neighbouring galaxies.”

Here are the five new “galactic fireworks” images:NGC 3627: a spiral galaxy located approximately 31 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Leo.This image, taken with the Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) on ESO’s Very Large Telescope headtopics.com

The image is a combination of observations conducted at different wavelengths of light to map stellar populations and warm gas. The golden glows mainly correspond to clouds of ionised hydrogen, oxygen and sulphur gas, marking the presence of newly born stars, while the bluish regions in the background reveal the distribution of slightly older stars.  The image was taken as part of the Physics at High Angular resolution in Nearby GalaxieS (PHANGS) project, which is making high-resolution observations of nearby galaxies with telescopes operating across the electromagnetic spectrum.

India reports 38,164 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hoursIndia reported on Monday 38,164 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, data from health ministry showed, with deaths rising by 499, lowest in over three months. There are more than 11,000 new Covid-19 cases and 81 deaths in Thailand today as less than 5% got fully vaccinated so far😩 This is very less because much of the COVID19 cases are under reported due to Elections in Uttar Pradesh. Modi want to win only Election but don't care about people's health. Even vaccine availability is very less compared to what govt reported . If you are wearing a mask, cover your 🤬 nose.
