, we found that the pandemic is impacting mental health around the world. Over 40% of people said their mental health has declined since the COVID-19 outbreak. In that same time period, the number of people who describe the state of their mental health as a 3 or less on a 10-point scale has doubled. Workers report more anxiety and stress. When it comes to mental health, employees will forgive you for not having all the answers; they may not forgive you for not having the conversation.
Yet, two in five workers say their company hasn’t even asked how they are doing personally. People in that group are 38% more likely to say their mental health has declined. Of those whose companies did reach out, by far the most effective communication was a phone call from their manager.their manager to proactively ask them about their mental health. Being a manager does not mean you need to be a therapist, but it does mean you need to care and you need to be proactive.
Here’s some hopeful news: Routine itself seems to help newly remote employees adjust to their new normal. Those who have been working remotely due to COVID-19 for more than 2 weeks are twice as likely to report lower stress than those who made the change in the last 2 weeks.

SAP There’s so much that we as business leaders can do to help them! We have to step up and do our part in helping end the mental health crisis that is ongoing in America!
SAP The poverty many face are a large reason why people have mental health. That has got to change!
SAP If we are not careful, however, we will miss a pressing health crisis lying just beneath the surface of COVID-19—the decline of mental health. Doctors and nurses are on the front lines of the physical health crisis. Managers must be on the front lines of the mental health crisis.
