SAN JOSE — Firefighters were at the scene of a fire that erupted Friday after a vehicle struck an apartment building in San Jose, authorities said.

According to social media posts, San Jose Fire Department firefighters responded to the collision and blaze at 3:54 p.m. at the building on the 5600 block of Calmor Court in the city’s Edenvale neighborhood. Firefighters arriving aboard at least four engines and three trucks with two battalion chiefs found heavy smoke and flames, due in part to a gas meter struck during the collision.

A second alarm was called at 4:16 p.m., with fire found burning into the attic of the two-story, four-unit building. Pacific Gas and Electric crews also responded, securing the building’s electricity and working on its gas connection.Check back for updates. Firefighters are responding to a vehicle into an apartment building on the 5600 block of Calmor Ct. Heavy smoke and flames due to a gas meter being struck. Please avoid the area. TOC 3:54pm
