One of San Francisco's most kitschy restaurants has found a new home, and will be reopening on Monday, after it was thought to be gone forever.
"Reopening Monday, January 24th. We are excited to announce we will be reopening in a new location - 430 Columbus Ave," a notice on theThe new location is just a block down Columbus from the former site, in the space where Calzone's Restaurant formerly operated. Calzone's was run by the same ownership group as the Rose.
Opened in 1991 in the heart of North Beach, The Stinking Rose — affectionately named after the ancient Roman's term for garlic — soon became a bustling eclectic spot on Columbus Ave.in a glowing review that revealed the restaurant uses 1.5 tons of garlic a month. The interior featured the world's largest garlic braid weaving through the restaurant and a mechanical miniature garlic factory on the walls.
Owners Jerry Dal Bozzo, who grew up in the neighborhood, and Dante Serafini became prolific Bay Area restaurateurs in the '90s, running Calzone’s, The Franciscan and Frankie’s at Pier 43 at Fisherman's Wharf, The Dead Fish in Crockett, and Salito’s Crab House and Prime Rib in Sausalito alongside their flagship spot on Columbus.Top Picks In Shopping
