The"CAREN Act" was introduced in July at a San Francisco Board of Supervisors meeting by Supervisor Shamann Walton. The ordinance is one step closer to becoming a law. On Tuesday, the board unanimously passed the act on first read. Next week, the bill has to be voted on again by the board, and then it will be sent to Mayor London Breed to sign. The ordinance's name is a twist on"Karen," the name social media gives people making racially biased 911 calls.
Racially motivated 911 calls aren't a new occurrence across the country, in spite of a recent uptick following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man killed in police custody in Minneapolis.Earlier this summer, a White hotel employee in North Carolina called the police on a guest, a Black woman and her children, who were using the hotel's swimming pool. And in May, a White woman called 911 on a Black man who was birdwatching in New York's Central Park.
Jesse Smolett are number one a Karen.
Ok they doin too much. The Karen’s are too dumb to understand what any of those words mean
911 caller: HELP! SOMEONE JUST ROBBED ME!!! 911 Dispatch: What's did the person look like? 911Caller: Um....uh.... I can't say.
Wisco If this means those a-hole racists who call the cops on someone for barbecuing while black will get arrested then I'm all for it.
It is good this law is in place now. We need to protect all our black and brown career thugs from nervous white citizens! (LOL)
Yep CarenIsADemocrat ..I thought it was the racists Republicans we had to fear...
Unless the perp is white. rasistmedia
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
People need to vote these idiots out
California is the 'R' word! Trump2020
So, as you are getting mugged you must weigh whether you are being discriminatory?
It’d be nice if they made it illegal to take a shit on the sidewalk too
How stupid trying to make something out of the letters..its spelled wrong and is so racist against white people
Let the bodies hit the floor!
You couldn't make it up
This would work perfectly in small rural towns where there's virtually no chance of this happening.
Now this is relevant legislation
All this is going to do is discourage people from calling the police when they are in actual danger. You guys aren't going to like to hear this, but no one chooses to have racial bias. As long as you continue to treat it as an act of will, you're never going to solve it.
Perfect name!!!!
I thought calling something Karen or in this case, Caren, is sexiest?
Holly sh** the phones are now systematically racist too
Thank God, now I only hope the punishment within the law and the danger of the this act will reflect the seriousness of the crime.
How hypocritical that the name of the act itself is racially exploitative.
The fact it’s called that...
So wait until your skull gets caved in before calling 911
Are we going to ignore the fact that this is Discriminatory against women named Karen or caren?
What a world we live in where we have to make rules so people don’t use things they find offensive about others, Skin colour, Sexual orientation, Political opinions. Whatever happened to just being decent and non judgemental, getting along with all and helping those who need it
The same Armenias call Turkey and Azerbaijan terror state (although Armenians have 13 terrorist organizations & long list of terror attacks). Armenians intimidate EVERYONE TF1 withdrew its report cos of pressure! MerciTF1 StopArmenianAggression DontBelieveArmenia
I'm not even gonna argue the name the acronym is too good.
Should have been 'Kaution', for acronym's sake.
The first person that should be charged under this Act - is Sister Act - Original “Caryn” Johnston (Woopie Goldberg) with her false allegations against Tucker Carlson.
It would then make sense to make discriminatory, gender biased 911 calls illegal too. No? 🤣
About damn time
I love that it's the Karen act 🤣🤣🤣
Yikes
how is this not a statewide, let alone federal initiative? so outside of SF and NY people can make discriminatory, racially biased 911 calls?
hilarious.
This is a slippery slope to violate free speech. There should be a fine for the call. Not making it illegal. I’ve been victim of “caren” and it’s free a speech issue that would be violated.
Hey look! ACTUAL racial privilege!!!
Can we not penalize all the very nice Karens out there.
Isn't this the same city that refuses to show video from the BART trains any more because the uncomfortable truth was it showed one race doing the vast majority of the crime?
jamesD24214733 I feel like this is actually kinda good... maybe I dunno tbh you’re literally in the other side of the world from me
Why are so many racists throwing out strawman arguments claiming you can't call the police on racial minorities anymore? 😒
I just can't 🤦🏾♀️
I’m sure those Duke Lacrosse players would have loved this after their lives where destroyed
This is definitely where SF leaders should devote their energy. Not the homelessness, closed schools, small business depression, or masses of people leaving. Those are all inconsequential issues compared to Karens calling 911 apparently.
Now this is just brutal!
The name of this bill is the first and only acceptable thing that’s happened in 2020.
It is illegal to call 911 for non emergencies already?

Our people are been slaughtered over a peaceful protest. The military has taken sides with the govt and not protecting the people which is their primary assignment. Today we have decided to take a stand to rewrite history. An end to injustice EndSars EndPoliceBrutality
