MOSCOW - Converting Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia monument from a museum to a mosque would be “unacceptable”, a senior official in the Russian Orthodox Church said on Saturday.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has proposed restoring the mosque status of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, a sixth century building at the heart of both the Christian Byzantine and Muslim Ottoman empires and now one of Turkey’s most visited monuments. “We live in a multipolar world, we live in a multi-confessional world and we need to respect the feelings of believers.”
“We believe that in the current conditions this act is an unacceptable violation of religious freedom,” he was quoted as saying.

The building is belong to Turkey. The decision has to be done by the Turks. There shouldn't be any pressure from other countries. My personal idea:The building has a prayer area one of it is side, call to prayer performes five times in a day. It is good to be a museum now.

I have no issue with it being changed to a mosque. It was a mosque for 600 years, is in a Muslim country. If your religion is defined by a building in another country then. Just make it visitarle to non-Muslims with appropriate measures like the Sultan Ahmed (Blue) mosque.

I am not fond of exclusionary religious sectism being applied to that house of worship, but I find the very existence of the Russian Orthodox (so-called) ‘Church’ power structure to be far more unacceptable than Hagia Sophia being classified as a mosque.
Turkey should stop doing that! Muslims are overwhelming majority there, so they are expected to respect minority's rights and cultures. Besides Turkey has a good reputation for their religious tolerance.

Hagia Sophia is a property of Turkey, that is why no one has a right to say anything on whether or not this structure will be transformed into a mosque again. This decision is up to the Turkish authorities, not anyone else! Turkey's sovereign rights are not topic to be discussed.
