The NYT obituary for Ross Perot
Mr. Perot made a fortune in computer services, mounted bizarre paramilitary missions in Asia and was a strong third-party hopeful in the 1990s.
. He had never held public office, and he seemed all wrong, like a cartoon character sprung to life: an elfin 5 feet 6 inches and 144 pounds, with a 1950s crew cut; a squeaky, nasal country-boy twang; and ears that stuck out like Alfred E. Neuman’s on a Mad magazine cover. Stiff-necked, cantankerous, impetuous, often sentimental, he was given to homespun epigrams: “If you see a snake, just kill it. Don’t appoint a committee on snakes.”

Texas billionaire Ross Perot dies at 89Perot was an unlikely political figure, saddled with easily caricatured voice and ears and with no political campaign experience before he launched his bid. Too much news on presidential candidates and billionaires today. Perot formed the Reform Party in 1995 and mounted another presidential bid in 1996, but that one fell far short of the 1992 effort, effectively ending his run on the national political stage. I remember him. RIP
Texas billionaire H. Ross Perot dies at 89H. Ross Perot received 19% of the vote in the 1992 presidential election against President George H.W. Bush and BIll Clinton, which stands among the best showings by an independent candidate in the past century. He died Tuesday at his home in Dallas. Had he not quit and rejoined the 1992 election and picked a better VP candidate, he could have been President. It is one of the great 'what ifs' in election history. Is there a special section in The Clinton Library dedicated to Ross Perot? RIP Ross Perot
