Texas Rep. Michael McCaul defended his state's independent power grid Sunday, pointing to a decade-old report on winterization as the way forward

when temperatures dropped well below freezing for days on end. The extreme weather has also led to pipes bursting, leaving many around the state without clean water.

"The difference between Texas and, say, the Northeast, is we're not prepared for this," McCaul went on. "We're not used to this type of weather." The grid "was not winterized for subzero-degree temperatures." Asked if the idea of using federal funds to pay for fallout from the failure of a state-run grid was "kind of rich," McCaul deflected.

All if a sudden Texas and Porto Rico look very similar when comparing the conditions of their power grids. Who would have thought !

McCaulK these Icy snowBaLLs!!

Of course he does. Not his or any republicans fault. Texans want small government snd no regulations. Now big government, led by democrats, is providing aide, as it should. I wonder if governor will even recognize Biden's support? Shameless R leadership.

Only a fool defends obvious wrongdoing.

Hey, why are my tax dollars going to be used to cover exorbitant utility bills in Texas that are a result of that states screwed up utility system. Isn’t that what GOP says about Covid funds going to states like CA and NY? At least Covid money will go to teachers not utility co.

Texas grid failures in 1989, 2011, and 2020 and still Texas businessmen do not spend money on anything other than on themselves and their shareholders. Texas Libertarianism is the philosophy of 'I got mine, screw you.'

Science brah. Everyone else saw it coming.

He's bought.

There is no defense, it failed dismissally. Fed should take control of TX grid until ERCOT/Texas energy Companies can truly be independent and/or repay US taxpayers for FEMA support.

Yeah, your not. And if your keep denying climate change get used to not being used to it

I think we all need to tweet RepMcCaul and tell him to put a sock in it.

Independent? so that is what you get - misery and death! This is the United States of America! United we stand divided we fall! (remember?)

I'm not sure a $10,000 power bill is defendable.

Then his constituents should not be bailed out by FEMA.

Sounds like trump and the pandemic

Yeah, the Texas energy grid is the picture of perfection. Ok sure.

Tell that to the people that's gonna have thousands of dollars of power bills they can't pay.

Survival of the richest, right Rep. McCaul?

FUCK USING FED TAX PAYERS MONEY TO PAY THOSE ELECTRICITY BILLS. TEXAS PLANNED TO CHARGE CRAZY HIGH FEES ALL ALONG. WHAT HAPPENED WAS NOT A FLUKE. 🔥

Wait till the foreign hackers get after this weak link.

They weren't used to it the last time this happened. Or the time before that. This goes back decades. Ignore the damage and dead, ignore the recommendations, keep on counting the money. They simply don't care.

Climate change is real and everyone better start listening and doing their part or this planet isn't going to survive. science

McCaul also said in interview that 25% of the grid was green energy. It is 10%. McCaul knew this was a lie, no correction from interviewer.

Typical blue ribbon report. Lots of paper wasted and NO action taken. Since the Energy companies are not government they should be sued by EVERYONE who suffered any loss.

REPUBLICANS FAILED TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE AGAIN. ! WHEN TO FUK WILL THERE BE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR KILLING PEOPLE ? REPUBLICANS ARE AMERICANS BIGGEST THREAT !

They've had since 2011 to weatherize outside pipes and stuff. They have the money to do it. They must be making serious coin on the interest they draw on that fund to not use it for its intended purposes...

They were warned in 2011 and 1989. This is what happens when you have republicans running your state who don't believe in science and only care about enriching their energy corporations who reciprocate by keeping them in power with political donations.

Pathetic

Isn't that a nice excuse. How about going to the funerals and making that comment?

In California we weren’t used to fires in September, and then in January. The Southeast isn’t used to running out of letters in the alphabet to name hurricanes. The Midwest had never heard the word “derecho.” Climate change is real. Get used to it. And fix it.

You can read all the reports in the world but if you don't actually DO something to protect the power grid you need to get out of the way and let someone else handle it. Republicans HAVE NOT HANDLED IT.

So they ignored every bit of advice and warnings, because 'we didn't think it would seriously happen'?

Effing republicans. Always behind. We almost lose every war or disaster because of them. Then we put the Democrats in charge to sort things out. Every damn time.

Imagine doubling down on looking like a 3rd world country as your constituents suffer
