I live near Rochester, NY, where paramedics had to adopt a policy of waiting for the police to show up before exiting their vehicles, because too many paramedics were getting hurt and threatened when responding to calls.
That's whom the mother in Philly thought she was calling for to help her son. However, he was armed with a knife and none of the above agencies will attend to situations that volatile.

I think it a good ideal if it done properly, some small cities and towns been doing it for years with out any issues and been getting good results. It does take more training for the dispatcher, to make sure they asked the proper questions, before the send the unit.
