’s final week of episodes as host of “Jeopardy!” — which conclude with the episode airing January 8 — have been striking in part for how much Trebek is committed to performing the show’s business as usual.
But in the main, Trebek’s achievement was to put the action of the show — three contestants and 61 pieces of trivia per night — first. There’s little room in the show’s tight format for sentimentality, and Trebek, an emcee from the old school, seemed to revere the format above all.
Trebek leaves big shoes to fill. Ken Jennings, the famous “Jeopardy!” champion whose 74-win streak in 2004 made him a household name, will be the first guest host in Trebek’s stead. Recent attention to Jennings’son social media, for which Jennings apologized, suggests that Jennings, still, has some growing up to do.

My dad passed away of cancer several months prior to Alex's diagnosis. Felt weird watching the Friday's final show w/o dad watching too. Felt surreal knowing Alex died 10 days later after the taping of the show. They'll never find anyone to fill his shoes, they were too big.
