One lives in his car. Another has 12 credit cards. A new show from Ashton Kutcher seeks to help young people dig their way out of debt. But can you really get financial advice from reality TV?

Reality TV is very America. So is student debt. It was only a matter of time before someone put them together.

“Going From Broke,” a new reality show created by actor, producer and entrepreneur Ashton Kutcher, looks to illustrate how the financial realities facing young people today are disrupting the traditional ladder to financial success.

Hollywood style, literally. The answer is no.

Kutcher is wealthy. How can he vicariously speak through those who aren't rich; earned low-hanging-fruit college degrees; amassed 5 figure, sometimes 6 student loans; and found out the joke was on them after graduating college?

No

Shark Tank is a pretty good source.

Marry a wealthy older woman, milk her financial assets, then divorce her for a younger version?

Good question. And, personally, I'd advise against it. After all, we now have proof that a reality show host ISN'T capable of running the country!

What kind of dumb question is that? Can you get home make over advice from hgtv? Stock advice from Kramer? Life advice from Oprah? 🤦🏾‍♂️

He’s trying to help!!

Credit cards aren’t bad. Carrying balances on credit cards is bad.

Dave Ramsey.

Lol

Or from Ashton Kutcher. Not exactly middle class.

Hint, don't go to college it is not worth it.

Lol...it’s like asking the the WSJ to report the truth. Not gonna happen

Depends on if they get paid large sum while filming...

Ok let’s see sav4u1st

So a millionaire is gonna give these hard on their luck people? Ummm can’t he just write out a check and help them out! aplusk

Depends. Is it actual reality, or trump reality?

OMG, Ashton Kutcher isn't going to help anybody! Dude! Where's his car?

Yes, and you can even become president., voted in and financed by wealthy men

Jerome Powell asks himself that every morning, I'm sure.

What on earth qualified aplusk for this? Ah! He's punking us again!

Financial advice from a guy that invested in WeWork & Uber? Hard pass.

Step 1: be born handsome Step 2: get a modeling career Step 3: get a supporting role on a TV sit-com Step 4: get a major role on a TV sit-com Step 5: make a few movies Easy peasy

I think I'd watch. If his aim was true instead of for entertainment.

If the TV show pays you for participation. Otherwise it's just exploitation.

I trust Ashton Kutcher. rachelestout

Scientologist. Fake. You can try me and no. You are fake.

He is Scientology. He is fake. No one wants that bullshit.

Can you really get your president from a reality TV show?

No, almost every town has free financial services for the needy. You need to want to be out of debt and change your life,

Another billionaire making money off the poor. Great.

depends on whether the show compensates them by paying off their debt

Best financial advice for young people: always vote against Republicans. The longer you expect to live, the more you want to prevent Republican rule.

This is so sad. 12 credit cards?!?

i bet both of these people have outstanding school debit. I had a friend who lived in his car for yrs until his college debt was paid off. This man lived off crackers and soup. His only bill was his car insurance and cheap cellphone which he paid 30 dollar a month for

well we've elected Reagan & Trump based on their hollywood influence so how well did these work?

How about a little focus on prevention. Our culture is pushing young people to get expensive and useless degrees.

I once had a WSJ writer interview me. She got me to do the interview by lying, saying the interview was for one purpose when it was really about another. The difference would have made be deny the interview.

Dave Ramsey, Seth Godin, Mark Cuban in 'Borrowed Future.'

Best advice on debt possible:

GormleyAlbany A creative approach to try and make a difference from aplusk! financialliteracy smartchoices

you can, but you shouldn't.

Probably better and more ethical financial advice than from .

Why not? Seems the GOP takes financial advice from a guy that's been bankrupt 5 times.

He should have a show that shows them how not to get into debt in the first place.

Dunno why not. You can get a President from it.

You can.... but I can't say if it's good advice or not.... when you're desperate and you can't even claim bankruptcy to get out of paying student loans, what do you have to lose?

And these examples have access to tv?

All of us need this experience- Ashton will learn, we all will gain i fo from his experience- one more person who understands this community is important!!

Can we really get a good President from reality tv?

Companion show to Marry A Million🕺💃🙃🙏👏🧐🤣

Well good for him.....we need more constructive things on TV.

I don't want to live in a car. I also don't want to have 12 credit cards! no

If they live in their cars or can't afford cable , how will they be about to watch the show?

I will trust Ashton Kutcher over ANY Republican.

Mila, his wife, I didn't know she's Ukranian, she is from Russia. I thought she was greek. Her last name is Kunis. My last name is greek. The last two letters of her last name threw me. Is her real last name something else? Did Mila Kunis change her last name for Hollywood?

DaveRamsey DaveRamseyLIVE should be the host. He is the only person who is competent for this.. and even with his stern advice, he is really kind to those who screwed up.

DaveRamsey

It's called personal responsibility. My wife and I married at 21, worked as waiters for a few years and paid off $60k in student debt in less than 5 years. It can be done. You just have to make sacrifices.

One can get advice from many places. The question is whether an individual is rational and controlled enough to pick and follow advice that could work for them.

I hope so, otherwise this would be a lame series.

reality tv and trailer trash book are 2 of the huge reasons we have a donald trump at all

condescending bullshit it's easy to pretend you know how to manage money when you have millions of dollars already

Can reality tv teach people to save regularly & stay current on all debts? Since I just covered the topic in a single sentence, I believe it's feasible.

Hi I want to quick share my little testimony to you all. I got my credit report repaired It was 560 two years ago now it’s fixed to 780 scores less than 3weeks and i was able to pay all my student loan about $85,000 BEST EVER contact PERFECT JAMES (360) 810-8744. Thank me later

Can't wait to see how it goes! Really excited about the attention this brings to the importance of working on your financial health too!

You don’t need reality tv. Follow DaveRamsey to get out of debt, HowardMarksBook for understanding cycles, and naval for wealth creation via entrepreneurship. Turn off the tv, in fact, it’ll do more harm than good

I’ll save you having to read an article to get this answer: no. This is just gross, exploitative garbage advancing the myth that our massive college debt crisis is a matter of ‘personal responsibility” (despite being unique in the developed world in its severity)

Sign me up aplusk

Why not, it’s better than nothing.

Showbiz is overpaying celebrities,we pay to watch them become celebs,we pay to watch them go into trouble then we pay more to appreciate them when they get out of that trouble 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

America : 'We reward our winners, and do not shoot our losers.' .... Losers may have to pay a deductible though.

Declare bankruptcy, and start-over from zero ?

I would watch this show.

Maybe major in something that, well, provides employment after school? Weird concept, go to college, learn, get a job, get paid, pay your debt. Revolutionary shit.

Big Spender on AETV was a GREAT show. So was 'Til Debt Do Us Part in Canada.

Ask Jim Cramer?

Enough stupid reality shows. Feel good for Kutcher?

Like GretaThunberg said. Keep believing that dream that economical grow will be endless. GOD BLESS THE PROFIT.

Yes, of course you can get financial advice from reality TV. If our president can run the country on whatever Fox News says, I can get my financial advice from Ashton Kutcher. Besides, he's a brilliant investor. He always picks the best ventures. It's uncanny, really.

Poverty porn

Hell yesss!!!! Great idea, especially for millennials, God knows ur not going to get this type of productive information in any schools...smh

Why not realDonaldTrump did.

Forrester should donate money to radio station!!!

Better than punked

Looks like that movie money dried up!

no

we elected a potus from one . . . sooooooo

No.

This might actually be reality television that is worthwhile, not just another steaming pile of degeneracy.
