A 7.44-acre property owned by the Mellon family, perched on a bluff on an island off Cape Cod, is being listed for $19.8 million

The heiress and horticulturist Rachel “Bunny” Mellon spared no expense on her gardens.

At a Cape Cod estate purchased in the 1970s, Mrs. Mellon, who designed the White House Rose Garden for her friend Jacqueline Kennedy, employed a team of 10 to 15 gardeners to maintain her simple-but-elegant aesthetic. She had nutrient-rich soil trucked in to replace the sand-filled dirt found on her waterfront property so she could grow her own vegetables and herbs.

Mrs. Mellon also used her private plane each winter before her death in 2014 to transport potted orange and lime trees from the Cape Cod property to Antigua, where she also had a home, said Thomas Lloyd, 45, a grandson from Mrs. Mellon’s first marriage who inherited the property known as Scallop Path. She would then bring them back to the Cape for the summer, he said.

Scallop Path is now being listed for $19.8 million, according to agent Zenas Crocker of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Robert Paul Properties. Perched on an elevated bluff on a gated island, the property spans 7.44 acres and includes a 17th-century house, a separate garage, a two-bedroom guest cottage, a boathouse and a dock. According to property records, Mrs. Mellon and her husband, banking heir Paul Mellon, purchased Scallop Path in 1973 for about $400,000.

The Mellons created a large estate on the Cape over several decades, including a 26-acre compound that Mrs. Mellon sold to billionaire William Koch for $19.5 million in 2012. They also owned the two adjacent properties west of the compound, Dune House and Scallop Path, originally called Putnam House. Mrs. Mellon gifted those two properties to her son, Stacy Lloyd III, before she died.

The housing market is so crazy, this $600,000 ‘horror’ is drawing multiple cash offersAvailable homes are so scarce that this ‘nightmare’ listing seems like a steal --- even though it’s covered in graffiti and smells awful LOL PISH I bet its not nearly as bad as the house we bought where the owner died, freezer broke and rotten meat and a gas leak turned the house into a stench pit that took us 3 years and about 80 grand to repair, that place can be fixed with just paint and carpet.

From cabin fever to separation anxiety, families enter a new phase of pandemic lifeAs offices open back up, camps welcome kids and vaccinations make more time away from home possible, families are reacclimating to being apart from one another. I think it's a 'selfish argument' for you adults and parents. You basically should not leave your child in the camp. As a parent, you must make sure that your children really want the camp. Got my kid an Apple watch so we can communicate during the day. The camp told me that they are tech free and he can't call me during the day. I told them to fuck off. He can call me anytime he wants. Fuck your rules. I'm surprised the amount of offices that are going back to that model.I don't mind going into work but every person I interview now makes it a priority to ask about work from home options and I do get it.I hope were really considering if the job must be in the office or not.
