Queen Latifah plays Oscar-winner Hattie McDaniel in the Netflix series “Hollywood,” and has a simple reaction to HBO Max's decision last week to pull “Gone With the Wind” from its service temporarily: good riddance.

AP | Netflix via AP— including those who wonder if it hurts the legacy of Hattie McDaniel, the first African American woman to win an Academy Award — Oscar nominee Queen Latifah says good riddance.

“They didn’t even let her in the theater until right before she got that award. Someone came outside and brought her into the auditorium. She wasn’t even allowed to sit in there. And then she had to read a speech that was written by a studio. You know that’s not what the hell she wanted to say,” she said.

LATIFAH: This is like nothing I’ve ever seen in my life. And it’s also the fact that it’s happening worldwide. It’s time, you know? It’s time. What an opportunity we have right now. I can only liken it to what it was like for me as a kid, as a teenager — young 20s, early '90s when there was apartheid in South Africa, and we weren’t with that. And rappers, we stood up and used our voices, and everybody used their voices.

I am both ripped apart on the inside and at the same time inspired, and I have renewed vigor every day because we have a lot to do. It’s an election year. I’m inspired by the youth being out there.

IAMQUEENLATIFAH claims that Hattie McDaniel didn’t write her own Oscar speech. I’d like to know where she read that because I’ve searched for the answer and it’s never mentioned in any article about Ms. McDaniel’s Oscar win.

She should be gone with the wind!

Yes, let’s ban the movie that garnered Hattie McDaniels (mammy), the barrier shattering accomplishment, of being the first black woman, to ever win an academy award. Do these idiots ever do any research before spouting off

And every movie that showed violence towards African Americans, portray gangs as having mostly black members, African Americans in movies often shown as housekeepers, gardeners, drivers for white Hollywood stars, etc.

Who needs her opinion about this? She is ignorant

Let’s get rid of brining down the house wile we are at it

America is on a down hill slide. Hell has come to America...

These movies show us a past and how far we've come

Insignificant

Pulling Gone with the Wind will not and can not erase history

Ahhhhh censorship. Music can say whatever it wants though.

Not You in particular because I think, I hope you were one of the first to try to change things. Your in business and have traveled the world. Your generation of musicians probably did more to not only to ruin the reputation of young black men but of American youth in general.

What’s matter..Gone With the Wind show slaves too close with O’Hara family and others..One day good riddance to you Lafatta.. sure don’t look like a queen but more like weightlifter in drag..!!

'Gone with the Wind' returning to HBO Max with introduction of 'historical context' by Black scholar Jacqueline StewartHBO Max will return the 1939 movie 'Gone with the Wind' to the steaming service's lineup with a special introduction by Black scholar Jacqueline Stewart. The worst censorship is by people who claim that it is 'for the good of the people'. I think a lot of the people criticizing the movie probably have never even seen it. It's over 80 years old, about 4 hours long, and probably not very engaging for modern audiences. Sounds like a snooze fest, but I'm willing to watch it to see what all the fuss is about. This is so weird.
