In this undated photo provided by Shontel Brown for Congress, County Councilwoman Shontel Brown campaigns in Ohio. Brown held off progressive Nina Turner Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021, to win the Democratic primary for an open U.S. House seat in Ohio. She will vie to replace Rep. Marcia Fudge, who left to be President Joe Biden's housing chief, in the 11th Congressional District in November.
Brown, 46, has chaired the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, the largest county party in Ohio, since 2017. She’s currently on the Cuyahoga County Council. Brown faces Republican Laverne Gore in November, but is a strong favorite to be the next representative from the heavily Democratic 11th Congressional District.Brown criticized Turner, a popular surrogate during Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaigns, as divisive and has pledged to be a bridge builder.
AP: Turner attributed your victory to “the influence of dark money.” Were you comfortable with the amount of money spent on electing you by outside groups, or did they have an outsize influence on Ohio voters in this race? BROWN: I think there’s certainly some room for other voices at the table, for sure. And I’ve been hyperfocused on trying to find that common ground: Where can we meet together so that we can make progress? That’s been my focus. I’m not one that looks for the dividing point but really looking for the uniting point.
Speaking of dark money. Manafort/Mercury/Nina.
She won because she ran a great campaign and has a history of getting results in the district, period.
What part of Nina Turner was a HORRIBLE candidate is not clear?
Key words, deliver results
As a republicans am glad she won. The other candidates was crazy and backed. By. Aoc . The other candidate was black Too
Take it up with the Supreme Court - citizens united.
There was literally more than twice the amount of dark money flowing into her opponent’s campaign. What a weird way to phrase this.
She was running against a democrat . I hope y’all realize that . Her compation was black and backed by CoriBush and aoc . That are pissed this woman won
So the smear goes on?
dark money? what is that?
What’s an “11-hour” win?
What is the fascination the media has with Bernie and those who are Bernie-adjacent? They are utter losers and yet, you feel the need to interview them every fucking day.
people4kam She won because her opponent was too abrasive-IMHO.
What is dark money? Who provided this dark money? Is the statement about dark money a fact or an opinion? Don't slander without proof.
Shouldn't dark money be in quotes? Or has the AP decided on it's own that this is the way to characterize outside PAC money?
It's literally ALWAYS the same thing with them. They're the trumpists of the left, but with less winning.
You should also be pushing back on the dark money! There should be no dark money for any political campaign or politician. We deserve to know who contributed.
Tell her “critics” people vote.
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 WHAT WENT ON HERE ?
As black money people are the people who deliver results you might wanna walk that one back a bit
Nice stenography work for Nina Turner.
The primary campaign so messy
holybullies Which people? The ones on her recorded applause track?
So, is no one who loses ever to accept they simply weren't the top choice?
🤔
republicans too. nope.
Q: How did she win? A: She got more votes. Stupid headline
AP really is all Russia upped.
Turner outspent Brown 2 to 1 w millions from Silicon Valley. Corporate lobbyist, multimillionaire Turner hides the amount of her net worth. There was no dark money per 'critics'. It was in part Jewish Clevelandnites defending themselves from a profoundly anti-Semitic candidate.
This is a really shitty premise.
Congratulations
Nina Turner was a shitty candidate.
'dark money' = dog whistle
