NEW: Power outages from Hurricane Ian in Florida climb past 2 million

Ron DeSantis said the state's southwest saw surges as high as 12 feet in some areas.without power late Tuesday after the storm swept through and severely flooded the island.The number of outages increased in Florida throughout the day and by about 9:30pm Wednesday ET, more than 17% of the state was without power, according toMore than 98% of Charlotte County was without power.

Collier County, which includes Naples, had the largest amount of residents experiencing an outage: — about 80% of some 262,000 power customers. In Sarasota County, about 88% of customers were experiencing outages and in Manatee some 69% had no electric.Of those without power, almost 53% were Florida Power & Light customers.DeSantis said 30,000 lineworkers, including many from other states, were staged and ready for power restoration efforts across Florida.
