It's namesake was a 'bumbler' who lost multiple wars and threw temper tantrums.

California’s Fort Bragg – named after Confederate General Braxton Bragg – is a popular destination in Mendocino County known for its beautiful coast lines and lush natural wildlife. But its racist namesake is tearing the small town apart,After grappling with polarizing issues of race, slavery and the marginalization of local Indigenous tribes for nearly 1.5 years, the Fort Bragg Citizen Commission finally convened to consider whether the city should adopt a new name.

The city received calls to change it following the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, which spurred aacross the U.S. However, at the meeting, there was widespread opposition on whether to move forward with it.
