A collision overnight left a pedestrian dead after she was struck by a driver headed north on the Seward Highway south of Anchorage, police said Monday.
The incident occurred at Mile 101 of the highway, near the Bird Creek campground on a coastal stretch of the road that connects Anchorage to the Kenai Peninsula. Anchorage Police Department responded to the scene at 2:30 a.m. Monday morning, theyAccording to an initial investigation, police said the driver of a silver Dodge Ram pickup truck hit the woman, who was declared dead at the site of the accident. Police have not identified the woman or the driver.
The pickup truck driver stayed at the scene of the accident and was cooperative, police said. It was not clear how many other people were in the truck at the time of the accident, but none were injured, police said. The highway’s northbound lanes were closed for hours while police investigated and traffic alternated along the southbound lanes.
