The San Antonio Police Department on Tuesday filed a case of driving while intoxicated against District 10 City Councilman Clayton Perry with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.— which resulted is his arrest on Nov. 10 — to determine whether the two charges can be proved in court, according to a joint statement by the SAPD and District Attorney’s Office.

The charges stem from a vehicle collision on Nov. 6 in which Perry, 67, is accused of crashing his black Jeep Wrangler into a Honda Civic at the intersection of Jones Maltsberger and Redland roads just after 9 p.m. and then fleeing. Perry was arrested on Nov. 10 after he turned himself in at the Bexar County Courthouse for the initial charge, a misdemeanor, and posted $1,000 bail.

On the night of the incident, police went to Perry’s home after a witness followed him there and returned to the site of the accident to tell authorities the address. The officer who responded found Perry’s vehicle still running in the home’s driveway and Perry in the backyard lying on a sidewalk near the steps of the patio.
