People had gathered to salvage the food following a power outage caused by a storm.Portland police officers confronted a group of residents on Tuesday who tried to salvage food that was thrown away by a grocery store, authorities said.
Officers asked the group, which"grew to about 50 people," to leave or risk potential arrest for trespassing on private property, police said. Simonis said their departure allowed people who were waiting to pick up food to return to the dumpsters, the newspaper reported.

I've always wondered what happened to the entire contents of a Saks Fifth Avenue & Neiman Marcus after the Northridge Earthquake. Stores were told they had to 'dump' all items inside -- including packaged make-up, expensive handbags, shoes, etc. I probably bought some on eBay.
