Sony has responded to Microsoft's purchase of Activision Blizzard, stating it doesn't believe Activision games will be Xbox exclusive: “We expect Microsoft will abide by contractual agreements and continue to ensure Activision games are multiplatform.”

Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit are being updated as new information becomes available.

A new statement from PlayStation has revealed that the company believes not all Activision games will be Xbox exclusives in the future. The comments from Sony come just days after Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard for $68 billion USD, resulting in the biggest deal in video game history. Prior to this announcement, the biggest video game acquisition was Take-Two's recent purchase of Zynga for $12.7 billion USD.

The news that Microsoft is purchasing Activation Blizzard took the gaming world by surprise earlier this week. On the deal’s completion, which is expected to be finalized in 2023, Microsoft will have ownership of several huge gaming franchises including Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Diablo. Along with these big names, Microsoft will also own King, a video game publisher most famous for the free-to-play mobile games of Candy Crush Saga.

While Sony still has an impressive catalog of studios and games under its umbrella, with developers such as Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games both producing IPs exclusive to PlayStation, the loss of big titles such as Call of Duty would be a real blow to PS console owners. While the most recent release within the Call of Duty series, Vanguard, has not been met with as much success as previous entries, the games still account for a large portion of video games sales on PlayStation platforms.

Hopefully, for Sony, Microsoft will respect the agreements that were made prior to its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. That said, there are many out there who feel that Microsoft would not have made this deal, especially with it being one so historic, had it not foreseen some sort of Xbox console exclusivity for future Activision games.
